From November to April, U.S. drivers have cut back 30 billion miles compared with the previous year. This year alone, driving has declined by 20 billion miles.

I remember deregulation in, oh, 1977 or so. The price of gas rose and people DROVE LESS...BOUGHT LITTLE CARS.

So as gas crept above $2, I kept wondering when people would again DRIVE LESS AND BUY LITTLE CARS. Yes, the answer to that question is $4/gallon.

BTW, when are we going to stop paying "and nine-tenths of a dollar". Can we finally end that pretense?

I have friends with boats and campers (my exhusband specifically) who could very cheaply replace his tow vehicle. I guess I'll give him a call.
