I'm glad you liked the build-up. I spent far too much time tweaking their characterization throughout, so I'm happy it all paid off. :P Thanks so much for reading and commenting!
>Clark had hoped when they first became friends that maybe his own mom would step in and help Lex take care of himself better. It had never happened, though.
YES. didn't we all hope that? i think your clark will start helping lex right now. :)
For one moment the mask that Lex always wore dropped, and Clark could see the raw ache on Lex’s face, like Lex had been desperately hoping to hear those words for so long that he’d never imagined he’d get them. And then, the next second, Lex was calm and collected and Lex again. “I missed you, too.”
No matter how hard he tried, though, he couldn’t keep his voice cool for that statement.
That made me ache too.
Loved this, the care Lex took of an injured Clark and the care Clark took of a lonely Lex.
Oh, this is wonderful. I love Clark's observations about Lex. And this: Food, warmth, affection, comfort - all of them were things that Lex would starve himself of if not properly pushed. There had always been a sort of sadness to that, and Clark had hoped when they first became friends that maybe his own mom would step in and help Lex take care of himself better. It had never happened, though.
So cute. It doesn't matter if they're best friends, ex-friends, or archenemies their lives always revolve around each other and Lex is always very protective of Clark.
That's why I love these two so much. Even when they're enemies, it's always about them. They just belong to each other, in the very literal sense of the word, and it turns me into a total and utter sap. :P
Glad you enjoyed, and thanks so much for reading and commenting!

It's all very dead on to character. Well done.
