Judo Classes?

Dec 27, 2007 12:18

I was wondering if anyone knows of any place (preferably on the Johnson County side) that teaches judo (or other kinds of MMA) to adults?
It's something my boyfriend is really interested in, and I'd like to get him some classes for his birthday coming up in January, but I have no idea where to start!
Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

Not too far away: http://www.akkawestport.org/

I have a friend (Jeff Nell) who has taught there a while... I've heard wonderful things about this dojo.

Good luck!

I am preferential to the Midland Ki Academy (http://www.kckiaikido.com/) off Johnson Drive and I35. Aikido is more joint-lock, whereas Judo is more throws. Depends on what style of Martial Art you like. Some are more hard-contact, some are more weapon-oriented, some are grappling/wrestling types, and then some are more defensive like Judo and Aikido.

When I was looking for new disciplines to explore, I did a Wikipedia search on Martial Arts to learn more about the differences in style, then went to YouTube to see clips of the arts in action. 8

The parking isn't all that good at times, but my kids do the Saturday classes which tend to be fully booked, but as long as you're not getting there RIGHT at changeover, it's ok.

Welcome Mat Judo Club has several different locations. Its who the Johnson County Police Academy uses and recommends
