Poll What to do at a traffic signal (stoplight) that has no power

Come on KC! It's not our first ice storm and certainly not our last. Let's refresh ourselves on proper driving techniques.

I swear it's like people don't see any lights and they just whiz oh through. Scary.

Let's also add:

You come to a flashing yellow light at an intersection.

You:

a) come to a sudden and complete stop and look confused
b) treat it as a 4-way stop
c) slow down and proceed with caution.

Corollary:

You're at the flashing red side of a yellow/red flasher.

you

a) assume everyone is going to treat it as a 4-way stop and pull out in front of traffic who have to try not to cream your dumb ass and get pissy about it
b) wait until it's clear before proceeding

It really amazes me how at the merest *hint* of bad weather (rain or snow - and we get plenty of weather here), nearly every single driver in this town loses their brain.

Wet conditions on the interstate doesn't mean "drive 30".

Icy conditions anywhere doesn't mean "drive your 4WD SUV 10 above the limit". that nice 4WD isn't gonna help you stop any better.

in defense of first-or-second time ice drivers, imortlnoctrn December 12 2007, 00:45:23 UTC
i feel i must defend myself slightly with this one, as last winter was my first winter having to drive somewhere at least five days a week, and i don't remember this much ice last year. hadn't actually heard any news as the only tv in the house is constantly on the discovery channel or some other "man channel" (not stereotyping, it's what my dad watches), thusly i didn't know what was happening until it was happening. there's no weight in the back of my truck right now, so i was doing generally at least 40 for the last couple of days, but usually tried to stay at about 55 or so -today i was at 65 on the way home from work.

mainly just being careful for what could possibly be there instead of zooming through and hitting that singular ice patch that would happen to be in my lane =). once i saw everyone else -including semi-trucks- going a lot faster than me, i'd try to speed up though.
