A knife flicks past the standing man, and a woman, lithe, silver hair, flailing yukata, darts between tree and man after it.

She knows the animals won't die here, but part of her still wants to try anyway. Her encouragement to Sanji had been in some ways an encouragement to herself... If one cursed rabbit would fall by this tree, she could further accept this reality than her home of Gensokyo.

You might call the consistent and nonsensical hunting 'mourning.'

What's worse, is that day the sky tore with fire from the east -- a claim from someone she thinks an ally crying about the loss of family -- and now this man, that man, that girl, all new and fumbling along the Hitomi. These wretched Gods.

Winning all the time.

She's failed at the rabbit, but she hasn't failed to notice the tall blonde man in the shadow of the large tree.

"Don't be surprised." She speaks, simply. Humans. Everywhere, humans. Everywhere. But one of them was fun. Maybe another will be. "Or be surprised, whatever suits you best."

Steve had jumped to attention at the flicker of silver, the knife slicing the air near his left ear. He watches the rabbit bound into the bushes and gapes openly at the woman after it. His shocked, exposed, almost panickedexpression shines through for a moment before he schools his features into something more dignified.

He frowns at the woman, blond eyebrows knitting together "Who are you," he barks sternly, squaring his shoulders and gripping the leather straps of his shield a little tighter.

Don't be surprised? Surprised at what? Where was he? Who was this woman? Where were the others? What was this device in his hand and who had taken his communicator? These questions and a thousand more make Steve's mind reel, but his eye stays trained on the woman before him and his body tenses, tightens in preparation for her next move. Her coolness makes him unsure of her intentions, and though it is clear the knife was not meant for him she appears capable of violence.

Of course they were always surprised.

Why wouldn't they be? She was, momentarily, briefly, for a smattering. Stranger things often happened in Gensokyo, after all. And why wouldn't stranger things have happened to this man, in the strange get-up? The blue and red and white? Whoever he was, she concluded, he was an idiot.

Sakuya set her stance wide, knocked her chin upwards, two throwing knives suspended between delicate thing fingers. Her other hand slid into her apron. "A rabbit hunter. Who are you?"

Her reply assures two things for Steve: that a) he is not on Earth (she really doesn't recognize him? Not at all?) and b) she was not the one to bring him here (her body language, that of trained fighter, shows him her defensiveness. She had not been expecting him).

In his peripheral vision, he sees her hands and blinks at the glint of the knives. He still has not certain of her alignment, so he remains cautious, alert and keeps his shield at the ready. The combined adrenaline of battle and this new found confusion makes his heart pound, and he feels the tickle of sweat on his hairline.

He can tell she will not reveal any kind of information of him if he does not reveal some himself, so he replies, "Steve, my name is Steve. Can you tell me where I am?"

"Kannagara." She speaks methodical and precise. Su-tii-vu, what a strange, strange name. A foreigner, no doubt, like China, like so many weird faces on the Hitomi. She looks him up and down. "Are you hungry?" Might as well.

She'd begun to realize more and more there was no chance for her to see her mistress if she didn't at least try with the humans.

Madara-san... a human, as well.

"The rabbits won't die here by the tree, Himorogi. You'll want to come with me to a place where the animals will die."

His cheeks turn the subtlest of pink under her open observation of his body, of his torn and battle-worn uniform. He feels suddenly awkward and exposed.

He doesn't understand, "What do you mean they won't die?" he glances past her towards the tree, uncertain. His gaze returns to her, hoping for a less vague answer. All this information means nothing to him.

Her offer eases him a little, and his handsome features relax into a softer expression. He still grips his shield tightly, holds it against his side. This could still be a trick, some kind of illusion of the Hood or Loki.
