He did his best to do as Sakura said and got 6 whole hours of sleep - but he's still so behind on rest that he's weary. And maybe his thoughts make him weary too, the way his binding rubs his skin raw, the way no one is around anymore.
He's dressed and ready, though. Akira's an early riser, and in fact he's been awake since around dawn. The jog he takes every morning is starting to really feel like too much, but he carries himself as if there's no problem.
He's still a ninja, in the end.]
M'ready. [He slides open the door just enough to slip out onto the porch and quickly slides it shut behind him.]
Oh he hides it pretty well but Sakura's got a sharp eye for malaise and Akira does not look good.
She really should have checked on him earlier.]
Come on.
[Then she turns and steps off the porch, heading toward the training grounds, trusting him to keep up. She's not hurrying, anyway.
There's a fine balance to dealing with Akira, Sakura's decided. He prefers to deal with his problems--well, perhaps it's better to say that he prefers not to deal with them. It takes knowing when to push and when to back off.
For now, she'll let him lead.
He wants to spar, so for right now, they can do that.]
How have you been?
[This is small talk, Akira. An innocent question. It's not probing. You'd know if she was doing that.
[Akira gives a spectacularly ineffectual shrug as an answer to Sakura's question.]
Okay, I guess.
[And he thinks he's doing okay, if only because he can't accept how bad things really are. Because without really realizing it he's trying to disappear, is barely eating, is barely sleeping. Is barely talking. Barely drawing.
But he's the one who stayed, so he thinks he's better off. He wasn't going to run away like some people.
Even if he was lonely.
Akira follows, matches Sakura's clip. But he has to push himself more than usual, and not just because of his short stride.]
[Sakura slows her stride a little. It kills her to see Akira struggling, hear him lying--or perhaps not lying? Maybe he really believes that he's okay. Maybe he has to. It would be a tad hypocritical of her to find fault with that, wouldn't it?]
What have you been doing lately?
[She wants to keep him talking. Thinks it might help him, or help her figure out what's wrong with him.
Or maybe she's just a little starved for some human contact. Real contact. The Hitomi are so impersonal, sometimes. All of the time. Right now, especially. How long had it been since she'd spoken to someone in person?]
Studying, mostly. And the usual stuff, training and working in the fields.
[Akira is incredibly diligent. He wants to catch up, wants to become a Konoha ninja as good as Sakura or Naruto. Of course, he's many years behind. His physical skills may be excellent, but he's faltering with his jutsu particularly since his concentration isn't very good. But he's determined, and that has to count for something.]
