[It will not happen as it did before. A sudden burst of awareness whispers this. Naruto’s eyes narrow at the scrap of understanding. He files it away as Madara speaks. Speaks-and-Notyetnotyet, something else murmurs. Fury, sitting on its haunches in its cage, tilts its head at Naruto even as Naruto tilts his head at Madara, mirroring the motion and for a few moments, the sentiment.

A blink and visible past those horizontal pupils run twin slits. Dark and vertical. Predatory and vulpine.

And the beast flexes its claws as Naruto’s eyes in that moment provide an aperture to the outside world.
