"I never said I didn't want to learn how to play. The only dueling I know consists of two people trying to kill each other with sharp objects. Unless, of course, it's two people trying to kill each other with magic or heavy objects."

It was the same general concept, right? You didn't "duel" for fun. You could spar for fun. You could challenge someone to a game of pick up sticks for fun. But you never dueled for fun. It wasn't even fun and games before someone lost an eye.

"The game's called Duel Monsters," Juudai says, shrugging and sitting down on the ryokan's porch after tugging his shoes off. "You play by summoning spirits to reduce your enemy's life points to zero. I mean, symbolically it's the same..."

And sometimes it's exactly the same, but let's not get into that here. Juudai just wants to share this game, this unifying concept of his world, with Harry. Nothing more.

Which all sounded fine until the summoning spirits thing. That itself could be incredibly dangerous depending on what spirit it was. At least it Harry's world it could. With that in mind, Harry allowed himself to assume that it likely wasn't as dangerous to the soul as that same phrase might be in his world.

Until Juudai mentioned life going to zero. Yeah. It was hard to misinterpret that even across worlds.

"Wow. Sounds like a blast. I always wanted to have a spirit thing reduce my life to zero. Definitely top five on my to do list before I turn fifty."

Despite Harry's smile, the sarcasm was clearly obvious to someone who knew what it was. Harry was simply kidding around because just asking the simple question of "and you call dying in a friendly game fun?" wasn't nearly as amusing. It was also far too normal for a response to a ridiculous statement.

"In my world, it's just a collectible card game. Most people would never get the opportunity to see a spirit." Internally, Juudai sighs yet again. He's so sick of having to explain himself and his world. It's starting to feel as though even among fellow outworlders, Juudai and his friends are alone. "Only the spiritually sensitive might even have the slightest chance of meeting one. Most of them just develop a close bond with their cards without really knowing why. In my world, if you wanted to actually summon the real spirits of the cards, you'd need some source of power."

He lays a card down. "Here, it's different. Kannagara is sort of a spirit world, so it's much easier for them to come here. Tell you the truth, my cards have been getting pretty bored lately, because I haven't been dueling as much. I thought maybe you'd help me give them a workout ( ... )

Harry thought about all of this new information for awhile before nodding. It was certainly different, but it wasn't beyond the scope of what he knew. In fact, there were a few similarities.

"My world has some of the same things. People with power can summon what most people consider to be supernatural things. A lot of these things, like ghosts and vampires, roam the world without anyone knowing they're there. A normal person might get a chill up their spine, but not know why. Someone with power knows what is actually there or that the uneasiness is there for a reason."

When Juudai summoned his card, Harry was slightly surprised by the size of the creature. The one he'd seen pop up with Jack had summoned something was huge. This little guy, heck, he was about the size of Toot.

"I know a little general who would be really interesting in meeting that guy."
