Nemu had stood perfectly still at attention while she waited. She had checked the Garganta carefully to ensure it was prepared to his specifications. However, it was likely she had made some error. As he often told her, she was a useless and flawed creation, and she would be punished accordingly.

As her father approached in the distance, her spine straightened even further. She did not know exactly what she felt for him. Emotions, he had assured her, were useless to a scientist. She sometimes thought it would be better if she had none whatsoever, and wondered why he had given them to her. Or perhaps that was simply one of her many flaws.

As he grew near, she bowed deeply. "Mayuri-sama. I apologize for my lateness."

Mayuri watched her stand straighter when she noticed him. Just what did she think she was doing? That if she were taller she'd impress him? If he needed someone taller he'd make a taller creature.

He ignores her bow and apologies. They mean nothing. "Stop bowing and let's go. You've put everything off schedule!"

Turning without another word, he stalks off in the direction he came. Maybe it's only takes a half an hour to get to wherever he needs to be but that's an hour he's lost now, thanks to her uselessness.

"Yes, Mayuri-sama." She stood up at his command and followed him, taking care to stay a half step behind him and to his right. She was somewhat surprised that he did not punish her immediately, although that might be because he was in a hurry.

As they walked, she could not help but notice how strange this world was. It was as well-tended as any garden, yet it lacked the manicured appearance of the Kuchiki gardens. It appeared to be natural, but such a pristine appearance had to be the product of human intervention.

She was surprised as well that Mayuri-sama had been here for some time and had not yet been able to construct a way to leave. However, she had no doubt that he would be able to do so. Perhaps he was currently gathering the supplies he required.

As they walked in silence Mayuri organized his thoughts: what tests he should perform first, what samples he'll need, what machines will be the most important and need to be created first. So much to do. He glanced back at Nemu who was, as usual, trailing behind. Respectful or not, just keep up!

"Nemu! Tell me exactly what your experience was in arriving here. When were you taken from? What did you feel as you traveled? Be precise."

He leans on the last word, implying a foul temper and punishment if her answers are not satisfactory. The fool probably noticed nothing but with any luck, perhaps she is from a different time like so many others have been saying happens occasionally. How wonderful it would be to be able to discuss and test on someone from a different place in time than his own.

Unfortunately, there was no time in which Nemu was substantially useful and an able assistant. A pity. There was still much work to be done on her.
