Amelia spent several days mending the clothing she had on after last week left her house... her previous house... in tatters. She had saved her cloak, boots and her amulets on her wrists, collar and belt, at least, which looked odd with her shabby clothing.

But the journey to Raisato was uneventful, with refugees still getting settled back in. Amelia spotted Allen near the wall and waved.

"Mister Allen? Is that you?"

Was that? Ah-

"Yep! It is." A quick smile, leaning forward as he let Timcanpy go with a snap and waved back.

"I trust you had a safe trip?" Polite inquiry, walking forward as his golem flit up for a moment before settling on his shoulder.

"The trip was fine. It wasn't a bad walk, and the weather was nice." Amelia's eyes darted to the moving creature -- or whatever it was -- Allen was holding. "And who is that?" she motioned to Timcanpy.

She wasn't sure if it was a pet or friend of Mister Allen, and really, she shouldn't judge by appearances. Lots of people were tiny and looked like toys. Well, all right, Mister Pocota and the kid who had been here's companions.

"Him? His name's Timcanpy," he said, idly patting the ball-shaped golem that twisted suddenly to peer at Amelia. The cross on Timcanpy's 'face' seeming to contort for a moment before he abruptly grew a mouth and grinned toothily at her, fluttering golden feathery wings. Oh hi there, pretty lady.

If he picked up on the golem's trollish nature, he ignored it. "He's my golem. Don't mind him. Some people have likened him to a... pet?"

That got an abrupt drooping of Timcanpy's wings like a rustling of angry paper, but the golem just seemed to sulk.

Allen smiled anyway, cheerfully ignored the chide from the creature. Funny. He could remember even in Kannagara when he had felt a little self-conscious of Timcanpy being too big to hide anymore; that he should be hidden from sight, but...

Oh well. There were, for once, even stranger things around.

"Oh, a golem. He's so cute!" Amelia said. "Did you make him, Mister Allen?" Most golems just mindlessly did what their creators said, but Amelia had heard tales of spellcasters who tried to create a semblance of personality. It took some degree of skill...

... which was probably why most of the stories ended badly. But something that sized was pretty safe.

Probably. Unless Timcanpy could use magic.
