[This is a bad idea.

Near isn't stupid, of course. As an intelligent person, he should know better than this. He should know better than to even watch these dreams, but they are interesting. This person--Beyond Birthday--is interesting. In his time here in Kannagara, Near has watched these broadcasts, these short snippets of other people's lives--their conversations and thoughts and everything else. He's kept quiet, because he doesn't want to be scrutinized in return. Who would want that? Better to stay on the wall, to watch from a distance, to think...

But Beyond Birthday. That seems different. What does he know about this person: B. Somewhat of a failure. Mello knows more. Tied in to L. And they murdered him--L did, really, a Death Note and an experiment and Beyond Birthday came back.

These dreams seem disjointed, out of sync, difficult to understand. Near has watched this one; he's watched the other ones, trying to grasp on to something. Disjointed is the most accurate word so far ( ... )

[Beyond isn't particularly despised by the population of Kannagara, but he might be rated poorly in terms of entertainment worth. Yes, it's fairly abnormal that he not provoke a snap or otherwise violent reaction. Perhaps a positive, as his dreams rarely ever attract the wrong attention and force him into discussing raw subjects. Of course, L never responds to them. And so, he didn't expect the dull-toned voice and, even less, those words ( ... )

[That was expected. Everyone should be wary; if Beyond Birthday is connected to L in the way that he seems to be, the way that he is likely to be, then names are always important--even before Kira. Identification, and secrets, and aliases, all of them games in themselves.]

Nemo.

[Not the fish. Not the captain. No one, Latin. It's almost a test, too, a challenge--a joke, in a way. Beyond Birthday might understand it. It might make him suspicious, or it might mean nothing to him. It almost doesn't matter.]

It's not admiration. I only noticed the similarities. It usually means something important.

[Chuckles lowly.]

Humble, are we?

[The voice does strike him as familiar, but he can't place why at the moment. It must have seemed unimportant at the time. Or maybe he wasn't attentive, as that's been a commonplace occurence what with the burning alive and execution trend. He hums at the words.]

And how would Nemo analyze my serial nightmares? What's buried deep down? Am I afraid of the cops or strongly anti-smoking? [Sniggers.]
