[Luckily for Abel, Akamaru hears the static crackle and the sounds of someone breathing. The video clicks on again at the sudden pressure of fang against glass. The dog drops the Hitomi--as it's obvious to him that it's not going to break--and stares into it, tilting his head with another low, warning whine.

Now Kiba's looking over it, staring into the screen. He grimaces, eyebrows slanted in a "how the hell is this thing not broken?" sort of way. He's clearly still annoyed, more than before, but he spits out a half decent reply anyway--well, as far as Kiba is concerned.]

We can hear you, so if you have something to say, say it.

..."I like your dog." [He pauses, and laughs, though not out of humor, and more out of sheer surprise. Out of all the things this man could have said, he has to say, "I like your dog." Oh for all the--is he stupid or what? Does he think this whole thing is funny, because it's not funny.] That's it?

[ That --

That's Kiba. Kakashi would recognize that kid anywhere. What the hell is he doing here? He thought that after Naruto and Sakura had left, Gai too, at least, they wouldn't have to worry anymore. Though life here can get lonely, and the presence of others can be comforting, Kakashi would rather everyone be where they should be -- home. Where things aren't as easy as they are here, but at least it's still home. ]

Kiba.

[Thanks to Abel, the Hitomi has acquainted itself with the grass once more, unharmed and unbroken, much to Kiba's chagrin. He, of course, recognizes Kakashi's voice immediately, and he can't help but think that maybe--just maybe--this explains everything, because Kakashi is Kakashi. Kiba doesn't even know whether he should surprised or not. He groans instead, looking like he wants to ram his head against he nearest solid object. Multiple times. Dammit dammit dammit.]

Kakashi-sensei. [ And then he says, in a statement he thinks encompasses everything pretty damn well, ] Just what the hell.

[ Kakashi just sighs. ]

I know this is going to be hard to believe, but... We're in a different dimension right now.

[ A pause. ]

And there's no way home.

Like hell there's no way home. [His eyes flit around the scenery again, as if daring it to stay unfamiliar.] More like you haven't found the exit yet. If there's a way in, there's a damn way out, simple. Who told you about this dimension crap?

Hell is relative.

Some would contend you are already there.

[Kiba's posture changes immediately, stiffening, cat-like eyes narrowing. Akamaru does the same, hackles raised and growling at the image flickering to life on the screen. He knows Pain. Doesn't matter what body he's in. Except Pain's supposed to be dead and buried thanks to whatever Konoha's best stupid idiot ninja did.]

Gee, I don't know about you, but this ain't mine. If this is your hell, full of pretty fields and daisies, then so be it. See if I care.

Hell is the people in it. If I must co-exist here with irritatingly mundane and trivial individuals such as yourself, then yes, yes, this will be hell.

And do not begin to berate me about your village. I have destroyed it at least three times now. I am no longer interested. Naruto and I liked one another well enough in this world.

[ Naruto liked him more than Pain cares to say; the exact description would involve discussions that are rather inappropriate. ]

You could likely learn something from his maturity level.

I will be unlikely to repeat that statement again to anyone, you know.

[He bristles.] You shut up. Like you know anything.

And if I'm so below your level, why talk to me?

Number one?

How cold. You make me sound so replaceable.

Maybe 'cause you probably are. How's hell treatin' ya, princess?

[ He shouldn't be happy.

It's wrong and selfish. Undignified, and for all that Neji knows he's a terrible person to feel good, relieved; seeing Kiba and Akamaru, hearing them, their noises, clogs his throat impossibly.

His voice remains level as he greets his age-mate. No, age-mates. ]

Hello, Kiba. Akamaru.

[Kiba pauses, Akamaru barks in greeting. They both stare into the screen, Kiba still not sure what to make of this technological wonder. Another familiar face, though he doesn't replicate the sentimentality. Give him a year, and maybe he'll have that catch in his throat. Then again, probably not.]

[He nods once.] Neji. Don't tell me you've been stuck here for six months in this pansy place like the rest.

[ Same old Kiba: cocky and over-confident. His words "stuck here" evoke discomfiture, as had Kakashi's careful, empathetic debriefing of a history Neji almost remembers.

Best not to overthink the matter. ] No, not exactly.

[ And that should be enough for Kiba. ]

[ PRIVATE ]

Was there an occurrence of significance prior to your arrival here?

Define, "not exactly."

[Kiba facefaults, staring into the screen. He's not sure how to word what happened in Iron Country, except, maybe, "'Team 7 has a lot more problems than we bet on. Naruto didn't pick up on anything, as usual, Sakura's bipolar, and Sai creeps the living hell out of me."]

Uh... Kinda. Depends what you'd call significant. I'd be more pressed to call it a bunch of stupid drama bullshit.
