The last things you remember: gray light, sand, and torrential rain pouring down over the entrance to a cave, pouring so strongly it looks more like a solid, shimmering curtain of water. This was the first place you'd slept when you first came here, to... to... to where?
And suddenly, you bolt awake in your bed in the Osiris Dorms. (
you say I'm hurt / I will take your word )

It wasn't like that. That was just a bad dream. Duel Academy was...
[ His face softens. ]
It was my home.

What was it like?

I lived in the Red dorms for three years. They were run-down, drafty, and the carpet smelled funny in the one corner. Tome-san never did learn how to cook fish without burning them.
[ Juudai finally cracks a smile. ]
It was perfect. It was in the south, so the weather was always mild. There were miles and miles of woods up in the north half of the island. I once got lost in them for a week. That was interesting.
[ Softly: ] If you opened the windows of the Red dorms, you could hear the tide coming in against the cliffs.

I wasn't there, but Pharaoh came back to the Osiris dorms that night. He - [ Juudai laughs a little. It sounds strained, but settling towards maybe-normal. ] - all his hair was on end all night, and Daito-sensei said Chronos-sensei still had pipes of steel, and - [ laughs again ] - it was so weird.
[ He rubs his face, makes a noise like a bracing exhalation, as if he'd just took a long drink of water. ] And do you remember - remember when I dueled SAL? That monkey? Do you remember?
Did I ever tell you - when I got back from Neospace, I was really disoriented and I got lost in the woods in the north and I couldn't find food, and I was so hungry I was seeing things, and he - I swear - he found me and he brought me food. He brought me a thing of bananas, I'm not making this up - did I tell you my life was saved by a monkey ( ... )

He can connect to the first part easily. School is irritating, and stressful like that.
But that's mainly brushed aside, really. What gets to him is the brief smell of smoke and the pain in his throat at it. It's connected to his dreams, the same way everything that gets to him is, and he finds himself quickly cutting the feed, fur standing on end as he hisses at the device. (The Hitomi is pretty much the best amusement he has for himself while a cat.) And that question, burning itself into his mind.
How many people have you watched burn to death.
He. Needs a moment. And maybe he would consider answering if he was human, at the moment. But probably not.
Except that when stopping the broadcast of the dream, he apparently started a recording. And in his hurry to stop that, it apparently sent. Oh--
Crap.]

Except this one is from... a cat? A kitten, really. Wonder who it belongs to? Why would it have a Hitomi? ]
Hey there, little guy.
[ Juudai props himself up better against the cave's wall, near the mouth. The light is bad, but the grayness outside illuminates at least part of his face. Since he's talking to a cat, for once he doesn't look defensive, distant, or opaquely cheerful. He seems relieved to have something to talk to that is a. cute, and b. nonjudgemental. ]
Someone adopt you? How'd you get one of these gadgets? You know, you're a smart cat for figuring out how to use it. [ He laughs. ] Got a name?

So. Juudai may not be happy with him, but he honestly doesn't exactly have anything against the guy at all. This is unlike anything he has ever seen Juudai, though, and so he... pauses, and ponders. He doesn't like this whole cat thing at all, as much as he likes cats, but...
This might be an idea.
And so he... paws a bit at the screen, and leans closer to it.]

Yeah, I s'pose you can't type your name, can you? I guess you can be Neko-san until your owner shows up. [ Most imaginative name ever. ]
Oh, I hope you weren't touching this thing while that was playing, Neko-san. I dunno if this thing works on cats, but... [ Well, if Juudai were a cat, he wouldn't want to have seen that. ] Meh, probably not.
You know, I've missed having a cat around. If you don't have an owner, you can come find me sometime. [ Babbling inane things to a cat: what cats exist for. ] We've got lots of fish, and I still have one of Pharaoh's old cat toys somewhere in my bag.

This isn't right.
Why must these gods torment their chosen few so? Why make them continuously relive their worst memories and emotions through the haunting lucidity of dreams?
Much as he wanted to thank them for the precious gift of Fai... he wanted these torments to stop. More and more, as each dream he saw revealed the things that preyed on his friends guilts and wrongs, the more he wanted to just...stop it all. Problem is, he knows he cannot. That he, with all his power, can do nothing to heal these hurts for anyone.
Which is why, for the moment, Yuui eventually pulls the Hitomi closer and gives the young man a thoughtful look.]
Your dreams seem to be getting worse lately, Juudai-kun. Are you doing alright?

The path from dream to memory is never a long one.
Which is why Yuui just sighs softly to himself - then leans over enough to glance out the open door. To see the usual mist in place, but no rain.]
Downpour? It's not even raining here? Oh! You're on the island, right? Not stuck somewhere, right?
