[Yuui can't help it - he has to laugh a little at this man's dream. It's sweet and innocent in a way that his have never been - and the girl there reminds him of a certain one he knew.
He can still see her, from the chubby toddler to the village wife, she'd taught him to smile and dance, to laugh and what it felt like to join his body with another's for nothing more than the pure sake of pleasure found in the act.
He'd kissed her beautifully freckled face and brushed back auburn curls and weaved a spell of ice crystals in her hair before he watched her accept the man that she'd chosen to marry.
She would have been what one would call a friend, if he'd actually let her get closer than skin deep in his regard for her.
Now, however, he just offers a small smile, his tone soft for the early morning.]
She seems refreshingly honest and kind... are you alright?
[Because sometimes it hurts, to dream about what's no longer within your reach. He knows this all to well too.]
I am fine. [His voice is quiet and introspective, and he's not being entirely honest.]
[Not because he wishes to deceive Yuui, but because it doesn't hurt, it just feels strange and wrong, like weights inside him, and he doesn't know the words, the name for this...but it doesn't hurt, so he is fine.]
[It's not his place to question or pry into something so clearly personal but the look on the man's face... it's not one that shouts 'fine' at all, even if it isn't pained.
So maybe that's the reason he ends up prying just a tiny bit.]
Still, you must have been very close. She seems like the kind of person that's easily missed.
[ Jim can't help but smile as he watches the dream. It's light and it seems pure, innocent and real. Something to treasure that only came along once in a lifetime.
Yet, he can't shake the fact that it's a bittersweet reminiscence, since he isn’t with her now. That he can't reach for what he once did. She isn't here with him now.
Strangely, it seems familiar to Jim as well - that sweet and bitter feeling - but he shakes it off. ]
[ He can't read into what the man may be thinking, and he doesn't pry into personal matters, but something about the man and his dream lingers in Jim's mind, like a haunting worry. ]
She seemed happy when you two were together in your dream.
[ Jim quickly studied the man's mask-like expression before he glanced down at Karen who was busily curled up at his feet, tailing thumping softly against his boots.
Jim knows what it's like to miss someone as well. He knows it hurts.
He glanced back at the man through the Hitomi screen. ]
[Okay, one people punch through trees in this guys universe. That's not creepy at all. Two, any girl who gives a guy junk food is undeniably awesome. Yes, Cal counts tacos as junk food. Where he usually gets them they're as much a mystery meat food as hot dogs.
This girl doesn't remind him at all of George, but he knows what it's like to miss people.
Also, this guy's a little more than weird.]
Kind of annoying how these things don't give you any privacy.
[Does he know her...? Yes, no, only in dreams, only in memories he doesn't have? It's a difficult and complicated question, so he chooses to focus instead on the second one.]
I cannot. However, I know others who can.
[He just destroys trees in other ways. But--nuance.]

It must have been so, but--
[He doesn't want to say he doesn't remember...but it's the truth.]

...Did you sleep well?

[He's deep in thought, and seems preoccupied, but not sad...or at least, not apparently sad.]

...You seem lost in thought, mate.

[He returns his gaze to screen.] I...am trying to remember.
[Failing at it, but trying.]

She seems like a pretty awesome girl.

So she does.
[Now if only he could remember that.]

So...you don't know her? I guess it's a dream, not a flashback movie. . .
[Cal frowns as another question comes to mind.]
Can you really punch through a tree?
