"Crystal beasts"? What precisely are those? [Introductions? Well, sometimes one must give to get what one wants.]
Perhaps separate introductions and explanations would be best. I am Kurotsuchi Mayuri, captain of squad 12 of the Goeti 13 and head of the Shinigami Research and Development Institute. [He readies himself for the possible questions that come with such a declaration. He would launch into full blown explanation but it would probably overwhelm the boy.]
[ A slight ruckus from the next room over has woken Juudai up. A little.
At first, he was going to just roll over and go back to sleep, but it's much too loud over there to just be one person making that much noise, and Juudai's pretty sure Jim and Karen moved into the added lean-to on the south side of the house. Who could...
And then the penny drops.
Juudai leaps up, throws off his blankets, skids out of his room, grabs the sliding door to the next room, and heaves it open. A veritable menagerie of spirits - Ruby leaps for Juudai's feet - and the person inside -
[Johan's plowed back onto the bed in the middle of trying to get up -- he's not a springboard, you idiot -- and stares up at Juudai before laughing at him. Ruby starts treading on top of the two of them, while a few of the others have recoiled a bit at seeing Juudai leap out of bed, stampede down the hallway, and whip the door open so fast that it bounced back with a clatter upon hitting the wall.]
Hahaha! Looks like it, huh? How long's it been now?
[ Juudai gives Johan an incredulous look before punching him (not without affection) in the shoulder. Ruby claws all over his hair before Hane Kuriboh pops up of his own volition, and the two of them engage in their regular wrestling match. ]
Two and a half weeks! Where did you go? [ There was that dream that one time, but when Juudai checked the other room, and found no Johan, it was that much more disheartening.
After the punch, he hugs Johan, maybe a little more forcefully than usual. ]
[He watches this with interest; he's seen them before, heard Johan talk about them (that is, as long as these are the Crystal Beasts) but he's never heard them speak before. Besides, the sight of what looks like animals talking is an interesting one.
His tone amused, he says,] Good morning. Is this something that happens a lot?
[ With a yawn, he peers into the screen with a sleepy sheen in his visible eye. Fatigue is still deep in his system, as well as the overall shock of being tossed into a whole new world only days ago - only since last night was he able to move in, and he still hasn't gotten everything situated - so the sight and sound of talking Gem Beasts hasn't truly hit him.
Yet.
Once the sleep gets out of his system, he is sure he can offer a proper greeting to an old friend. But for now, with a tired smile, he waves as the screen before scratching wild raven spikes with a lazy motion. ]
Well, if it isn't Johan. [ With a soft laugh and a yawn, he adds: ] It's nice to see you again.
[Shou doesn't need to flick through his Hitomi to hear of Johan's return. The commotion Juudai made a few doors down was sufficient enough in warning him of that.
With a smile he scrolls through the Hitomi to find the right button after a few moments pause. It would be a shame to break up the reunion after all.]
Hey Johan, Aniki was looking for you. I take it he's found you yes?
[His voice is pleasant enough, save for the dry hint of sarcasm that he doesn't even attempt to veil. Despite his words though he has a relieved grin on his face that betrays how glad he is that Johan has finally returned.]

[Johan staggers out of bed, at that, and crouches down to level his eyes with the Hitomi rather than picking it up.]

Or, uh, maybe a better question is how long you've been here for? Maybe that unplanned vacation went a little longer than I thought, ehehe...
