End of second scene~ indiffendence September 6 2011, 19:32:03 UTC
Miharu is far from drawn to food.

As bright as all of that might seem in pouring rain with a grey sky above, it's not what catches his eyes either. What does is mostly everyone else pulling out umbrellas or picking up the pace to get out of the rain aside from one man, who's standing in front of that very open display and just looking. And Miharu knows this man.

It seems a little sad and unfitting, out of place, somehow, even if the weather is kind of gloomy and so it also fits. But because it doesn't, he walks up next to Yukimi, to stare blankly at the food.

"Do you think it looks good?"

His reflection looks back at him blankly through the wet pane. Yukimi always has that hollow look in his eyes after a mission of this kind. It takes a day or two to shake off. It used to take longer, in the beginning. The blood rubs off pretty easily from his cheek. And it's not a moment too soon.

He raises his eyebrows and turns toward the voice that calls up to him unexpectedly.

"Miharu?"

He didn't expect to see him here, but after a brief moment of confusion, his mind just accepts his presence as normal.

"Yeah, uh...just thought that plastic omelet looked kinda tasty," he says with a slight smirk. His voice is a little tight, like he's forcing that lightheartedness into it.

"Are you hungry?"

It's not so difficult to catch onto that forcedness. Neither is it so difficult to notice the hollowness in Yukimi's eyes. After all, Miharu knows such hollowness well, and it makes him wonder what would make Yukimi wear such an expression, and what he was wiping at.

"No," he says, although maybe he is. He can never really tell, himself. "Why don't they just put up a menu outside instead of displaying plastic food?"

He's not going to ask anything yet, if at all. There is an urge, though.

[Moreso than any other time, Raikou is thankful that (for whatever reason) he wasn't a part of this dream today. Too many of them, really, and it was disconcerting, to say the least. And yet of all of the dreams, including his own, this one is the one that sends a shiver of dread through him so deep it's as if he simply cannot breathe.

Not because of the hardships his friend and former partner had lived through, or the things he'd protected Kazuho from before they'd ever even met Raikou (because you knew that stuff already, to a degree, didn't you?), but because of the person that had appeared at the end.

Hattori.

That was the man that he'd followed so unwittingly blind for so many years. That was the man that he'd thought had the wisdom to lead with a strong yet cool hand, whose words had always seemed a cool balm to his own fiery heart. The person whose calm focus was something that Raikou had put his faith in, trusted to guide his too-passionate heart with temperance and honor ( ... )

[By the time he wakes up, Yukimi has a splitting headache. He sits up with a groan, rubbing his temples as though he can push those images out. He hasn't thought about that useless father of his for a long while, and it's not fun times to see him again - even in his dreams. Maybe especially in his dreams, considering how it's all out there for anyone to see. It's odd that he'd show up in a dream now, right when Hattori was about to sweep in and take up the greatest shinobi power known to man ( ... )

Fine. Right.

[The look Raikou shoots him makes it clear - he’s not buying it. But he’s also not going to press the man so soon after the dream. He’s just going to sigh and lean against the windowsill of his place, his gaze automatically drifting over the street below before shifting back to look at his friend.]

No... that was never the future I was working for.

[A beat.]

I believed in my heart that I wasn’t wrong. That Hattori could provide a cool, steady hand in that unsure world. That his patience and clarity of mind could guide my too volatile heart in the right direction.

But to do so by wiping away all of our bonds, all of our emotions... I could never support that. It’s like that sci-fi show - you know the one, where they have that hive-mind? It’d be creepy.
