[Hughes has been in Kannagara for about a week now, and despite keeping a bit of a low profile himself, he's been paying careful attention to the network (save for the dreams--he still feels a bit uncomfortable about that), and thus far he's neither seen or heard anyone that appears to be even remotely affiliated with either Amestris or the

Just look around. There's all sorts of jobs here.
[You can find pretty much anything that fits your skills - or nothing, as well. Kanda's somehow still managed to survive without a job, other than fighting and winning in some underground tournament every once and then, or picking up some one-time guard jobs. He's looking for something more routine like still, though.]
[His expression goes more flat at the question about the money, though.]
...there are a few kinds of coins. People want them for things.
[That's about as much as he knows. Definitely not the finance head of the household, nope.]

Erm. People...typically want money for things, yes.
[Unfortunately, people also don't mind ripping off other people who want things, particularly if they don't know what said coins are worth.]
Could you tell me more about the kinds of coins?
And I was planning to look around, but I was hoping not to go into it blind, is all.

So it seems.
[Excuse him; he's grown up without ever needing money in any shape or form and the use of it is still a little boggling to him, especially when you can get most things just by threatening the merchant even though Black Order doesn't pay for anything in here.]
[He scratches his hair a bit, frowning.]
There are... ones made from... gold, silver and this reddish brown metal.
[No, the word 'copper' is too difficult for him. Don't you dare laugh at someone who never had the chance to go to school, hey.]
Golden ones got the most value, apparently.
[Shrugs; not much more he can say really. Math isn't much of his thing just like chemical elements.]
[As for the jobs...]
Depends what you want to find. Can get anything from errand boy to bodyguard, more or less.

You wouldn't happen to have any of them on you at the moment, would you?
[He kind of wants to see them, but gold, silver, and copper should be easy enough to differentiate.]
I see. [Wheels, they are already turning. Bodyguard...he could do that, maybe. He's not the most physically strong around, but he's been around the block a few times where that's concerned.]
Thank you. What's your name?

[Yes, still a girl, and the goggles aren't coming off anytime soon. Matt's slouching over the Hitomi, and smoking.]
The money's pretty easy. Copper, silver, gold, in order of ascending worth. The fancier gold ones are worth the most.

Ah, what would you recommend, then? [He's assuming you're speaking from personal experience here, after all.]
That makes sense, thank you. [Not terribly specific, but he can deal with that.]

I work in a cafe. I was never actually, um. Official or anything, back home.

[It's always good to have a backup plan, in case he can't find anything resembling his old line of work.]
Oh, I didn't get your name, miss.

Here in Mizusato, the locals are more accepting to us, so it's a matter of getting out there and looking. As for the money...
[He pauses then, to lift up four different coins, one by one, explaining each.]
One Ryo equals four Bu, which equals sixteen Shu, which equals sixteen-hundred Mon. Got it?

[And he doesn't mind distrustful villagers. He's a bit used to it from being part of the Amestrian military, anyway.]
I was just hoping for an idea of what I'm looking for before I start searching.
[He smiles as Raikou explains the coins to him. That's the most detailed explanation anyone's given him so far.]
That's very helpful--thank you very much, ah...Heh. What's your name?

Ah, forgive my manners - the name's Shimizu Raikou, Hughes-san. And it's no problem. Honestly it's just a matter of getting out there in the village where you want to settle. None of them are really that bad save Yomisato.

What's so terrible about it?
[Not that he intends to go live there, but if you're going to say something like that, there's no way he can just accept it without asking why.]
It's a pleasure meeting you, Raikou...san? [It's used a bit tentatively, as he's not sure that's how it works. But. He'll try, anyway.]
