Where- are you in the Himorogi right now? I'll make C.C. go and get you.

[ for only the gods know what Suzaku will do if he has to hunt Lelouch down. ]

[ Hissed, angry: ] What do you want me to say, Suzaku? Do you think that was fun for me? Do you think I enjoyed having my fucking head cut off? [ Now that Lelouch doesn't need to put on a brave face for the network, some of the real raw emotion is showing. Of course it would be showing to Suzaku; it's not like he has much to hide from Suzaku anymore. ] Do you want me to apologize for dying?

Well, I'm sorry, okay? [ His voice breaks slightly on "okay," and maybe, maybe that's less anger and more something like the lingering residue of fear there. He communicated solely in text for the duration of that hell; mostly because recording aloud would have been impossible, but also so no one could see how truly, truly afraid he'd been at times. ]

[ Breathe. Get calm. ] I'm en route to Yomisato right now. [ Yeah, he made that post as he was walking away from Himorogi. ] I'm going to try to sneak in with a caravan, get some clothes and blend in.

[ he doesn't say anything for a while (a long while, too), giving himself time to do the one thing he doesn't seem to be very good at doing but happened to be doing a lot more often: think. he doesn't like that tone, but- it's not as if he didn't expect it.

even so- even so... he doesn't bother to give answers after being questioned. ]

I see.

[ and then, trying his best not to let his voice crack in the slightest: ] Do you want C.C. and I to help you with whatever you're going to do? Or would you just like C.C. sent?

[ because, honestly, he's more than willing to keep his head out of whatever it is Lelouch is planning should C.C. be sent alone. (alone, only after he goes with her halfway and makes sure she's safe and fine and can keep going on her own.) ]

[Oh, hey, you! That voice. It is that uhm... Lelouch person, right? Ah-- Right, people come back from the dead here, was it? So convenient...

..uhm. Project? He kind of wants to ask about that but... first things first.]

Are you feeling alright?

Fine. There were no physical effects.

[ Lelouch is ninety-nine percent positive that's not what the other meant, but it's not like he would have answered candidly to the real question. ]

[..no, that's not, at least not fully, what he meant.]

Good. And aside from the physical?

I hardly see where that would be relevant. [ Flat. Not cold, but flat. Lelouch does not want to talk about his feelings with you, Elliot, not today. Probably not ever, just based on statistical likelihood. ]

Lelouch.

[For once, there is no teasing lilt to the tone of Raikou's voice. It sounds more sleep-roughened, as if he'd only just slipped back into awareness - which is fairly accurate, since Gau had only stepped out to get his food after forcing the bitter medacines into him.

He's tired, and hurting, yes, but his only regret is not moving faster, of failing the young man that day.

And even if he's lived that regret over and over again each time he's slipped into a medicated slumber, watched his friend's death with a chilling repeat, the only thing that comes across in his voice is something almost like relief at hearing that voice, tempered with a touch of exhaustion, for all that all he's done since that day seems to be sleep.]

Won't you come to Mizusato? It's safer here and we have a camp set up outside the cave. You are always welcome here, my friend. Nothing's changed that.

[ It is surprising, genuinely surprising, how much Lelouch realizes he would like to do that, upon hearing Raikou's voice. To just blend into the crowd of his fellow out-worlders and not have to worry about the tracks he left in Yomisato, about the cold steel against his throat.

But he made himself a promise, and he has a job to do. ]

I'm sorry, Raikou.

[ It sounds like Lelouch attempted the usual light, teasing tone in his own voice, but it falls flat, falls into something similar to real emotion. ]

There are some things I do need to take care of.

Ah.

[Raikou can recongize that tone easy enough - it rings with a touch of resolve mixed in with something like resignation. It's enough to make him smile a bit as he closes his eyes, the Hitomi now resting lightly on his chest to be sure he's heard clearly.]

Well then... promise me two things, my friend. One, that you'll use a bit more caution this time and two, that you remember that if you need a safe place to stop and catch your breath, my place is here.

[Oh, god. Elfangor had been worried that something would happen if he didn't get over this problem, if he didn't start eating again and maintaining adequate energy levels.

And then there had been this. He'd been set to charge in after Lelouch when he'd found out he'd been taken, but then... there had been only dizzying darkness. He'd later discovered that he had fucking passed out, and had completely missed the slim window of opportunity to rescue Lelouch.

He knew that he would be back. He had to come back. Because going home, facing the death that he'd known was coming--no, that was not acceptable.

But even so. He could have done something, to prevent Lelouch from facing that sooner than necessary through an untimely death in this place. And he had failed to act.

He does not know whether Lelouch has faced that death now or not. Does not want to ask, for fear of the possible answer.

All he can do is apologize for his failure to act.]

Lelouch, I-- I'm sorry. I should have-- [He cuts off, shakes his head.] Is there anything I can

There's nothing to be sorry for.

[ A searching pause. ]

If anything, I'm glad you didn't... I'm glad you weren't hurt, Elfangor. Too many people have suffered needlessly for my actions.
