[After having been quiet for a long while now, Claire feels relatively adjusted enough to go out and about, and attempt to actually meet more people. She decides to head out to the market, and goes at a time of day when it's not all that busy, but not entirely deserted either. When the Hitomi turns on, she's smiling down at it, and offers her

[ HOLY SHIT.

Peter's spent the better half of an hour running through Yomisato trying to find Claire, and the next thing he knows she's videotaping herself being run over by a cart. This is great. This is just wonderful. This is-- okay, Peter isn't sure what this is, in fact he's not even really thinking right now because all he can see is that painting. ]

Claire?! Where the hell are you!?

[She just stares blankly, because...really, Peter?]

Look for the runaway horses with the lack of a driver. It doesn't matter where I am though, because I'm fine.

I know you're fine! [ Because obviously she just healed on screen for everyone in the world to see. ] But that's not the point.

[ Peter is exasperated, clearly, talking as he walks and looking (or rather, listening) for runaway horses but this is a pretty damn big city and that really isn't very helpful. ]

Look, something happened. You shouldn't be out on your own right now, it's not safe. Just tell me where you are.

[That warning gets her to stop, and her eyes go wide. It sounds all too familiar to how things were back in New York, when Sylar was coming after her. She at first thinks that maybe the man has shown up, but if that was the case, then Peter would have been much more frantic and given her a clearer warning.

She bites at the inside of her cheek, and turns her Hitomi toward the market.]

I was going to go out shopping, or try to have people meet me here so I could make some friends. That plan didn't exactly turn out all that hot.

[She pauses.]

What's going on, Peter? Why isn't it safe?

[Awkward. So so very awkward. Claire shifts and reaches up to rub off some of the blood off her forehead with the heel of her hand. She tries to smile, but her mouth isn't working with her, and she just looks sheepish and socially awkward.]

It's just a saying, don't look too much into it. Kind of like a personal catchphrase, I guess.

And uh -

[A pause, and she twitches as she forces a corner of her mouth to turn upward in a smile.]

I'll be fine. I've been through worse before.

[She shakes her head, but quickly realizes that this guy isn't going to just let her slide by with just her word that she was fine. He's going to want to check things out for herself.]

I'm fine, I promise, but if you really want you can come see for yourself.

As familiar as Isaac should be with this picture (Claire dead or injured by one thing or another) by now, you'd expect him to be a little less shaken after watching all of that. But even being aware of Claire's ability, he doesn't know the extent of it. What if Claire's healing were to go the direction of his own ability and only kick in every so often? Always looking on the bright side of life, that Isaac.

His eyes are wide and he sounds a little weak as he responds. ]

You're alrigh--please don't do that again.

[She thinks that Isaac should be used to seeing her like this, if he's drawn her before. But she also supposes that seeing things in person like this and a drawing of them were totally different things, so she shifts a little awkwardly and gives him an apologetic smile.]

I'll try not to get run over by any runaway horses again. And if it ever does happen again? I'll be sure to try and just stay dead.

[ Isaac, being Isaac, takes Claire's response as something of a sarcastic remark against his. He takes a deep, shuddering sigh, dragging a shaking hand over his face. ]

I don't mean it that way. I know it was an accident. I just--[ A pause to collect his thoughts, or at least to pick out the relevant ones. ] It's never been the easiest thing to see. I'm sure it's not the easiest thing to feel either.

[She instantly feels bad and guilty, since she doesn't want to offend Isaac and make him abandon her. Besides Peter, she doesn't really know much of anyone yet, and she wants Isaac on her side.]

It hurts, but not the same as it does for everyone else, I don't think. I'm sorry you had to see it, though. I didn't mean to...scare you or anything.

[Do grown men get offended at being accused of being scared? She isn't sure, and just gives him a sheepish look, praying he doesn't hate her by this point.]

[That was strange. In an upsetting way. People so casually running the poor girl over, and her so full of blood -- Rin bites back her rising bile.

But then the girl stands back up and gets to... setting her body back? As if nothing had happened. And judging by the volumes of blood, she should in no way be able to stand.

She doesn't want to jump to conclusions yet, but she does feel like she has to ask.]

[Claire feels bad that she's freaking people out, and she wishes that she had remembered the Hitomi was on before trying to piece herself back together. She gives a sheepish glance, and then looks away.]

I think most people would call that a freak accident, but I tend to call it another day in my life.

[What does one say to that? "Sorry?" Doesn't seem like it'll cut it.]

Uhm, well... are you all right now?

[Not much better, but Rin is kind of at a loss for words. It's been a while since she's dealt with this kind of thing, and back then it went mostly without words.]

Yeah, I'm fine. Not a scratch on me, see?

[She steps back and away so she can show off the fact that she's perfectly healthy, minus being covered in blood. After a few moments she steps back in close, and leans down to wave at the other girl.]

I'm...sorry you had to see that, I guess.

Now Jessica, being the immortal-not-really-type can understand what it is like to have instant healing, even though it's really more of a curse than a blessing, particularly in certain areas, ahem.

But she's pretty sure this girl is no vampire, judging on the fact that it was in daytime. So how did she healed up so nicely?]

[Oh gosh, this girl looks really freaked out by her. Unsure of how to respond at first, Claire is quiet, and shifts a little, trying to piece together the right words to say. She could take the smartass route, which was easiest, or actually try and explain. Since the redhead looks normal and entirely horrified, Claire opts to just choose the easy way out.

I'm pretty sure some people would credit it to natural selection.

[Jessica barks out a laugh, but then stops short and gives her a guilty look and shrug. 'Cause it's funny, in the horrible, meanest way. Why does the chicken cross the road? 'Cause it thought the gravel was chicken feed.

Or something like that. Jessica is not exactly a comedian.]

No, I mean, like . . . how? Were you born with that or was that given to you or what?

[She's actually kinda curious now, and want to compare the healing qualities of this girl's power with Jessica's own regenerative abilities.]

[At least she's laughing, and that puts Claire a little more at ease. She cracks a smirk and shrugs, playing up the mystery a little.]
