[video] Week 18, Day 7

Feb 12, 2011 17:24

[This is an unusual thing: a video post from Rin. She has decided something, and that is that, as one of the guides for newcomers, she needs to put herself out there. Needs to make herself visible. People are going to see her anyway, if she escorts someone from Himorogi. And it just generally looks better if they can see her face from the get-go ( Read more... )

[Iskierka notices the change in Rin's demeanor, of course. She's been around Rin enough to know when she's acting normal and when she's acting controlled. This worries her, and she can't help but comment even though she doesn't have much of value to add to Rin's points.]

Rin dear, are you alright? You seem very tense.

[Rin can't help but smile. Iskierka is, after all, a darling. Even if she is often a troublemaker. Rin is glad to have her around.]

Nothing much. I'm just... did you see the latest "news" post, Iskierka?

The one from earlier today? I did see it. Is that what has you so ruffled?

[She knows the slave thing is bothersome to most of the people who use Hitomis, even if she doesn't quite get why, so she thinks that's what has RIn so upset.]

[Oh, the slavery issue is just part of the whole conundrum.

A sigh.]

Yeah, that's it. It just seems like things are steadily getting worse, you know? It's... not exactly new, but this time, they were especially unsubtle. I just wonder what's to come.

Well, I know something about the neighborhood in Tsuchisato where I've taken up residence. And some of the information about spirits here is not too far from what is in my own lands, though these spirits seem far more interested in humans than the ones I remember.

[Which wasn't strictly the case, but spirits were more remembered at the solstices and local festivals. The small ones of river and forest were more like what Iroh knew, though he could see echos of the larger ones -- Tui and La and the Sun and Earth --- in the spirits Celestials sacrificed to. Those were remembered, but so far removed from most humans experiences as the Earth King was to a Fire Nation peasant child.]

But my neighbors do seem to appreciate newcomers who know something about local custom.

Ah, really? How similar are they?

And yeah, I... got that part. The latest news certainly spelled it out clearly.

It's a lot like visiting another country, to be honest. Some differences, some similarities. But I've traveled a lot in my life. The people here are a lot more... ritualistic, I'd say.

Gotta agree on that. Guess my experiences are pretty much the same.

[Matt looks a little spacey, as if he hasn't been sleeping enough lately, but he's got his new goggles (which are just like his old ones) on, so it may be hard to tell.]

Hey, Rin. I dunno if I know anything about this place that's not, like, common knowledge, but I'd like to help.

Oh, that's very nice, thanks! We can always use more hands.

[Matt has totally stalked Gokudera's reply by now.]

Oh, right, the bigger the animal, the more money you can find inside them.

And if you guys still want volunteers to hook up with new arrivals at the tree, I'd be up for that at some point.

Right. I'll be sure to mention that.

[Encouraging smile when she hears that.]

Oh, sure! I think we could use a few more hands. I'll tell Allen you're interested.

[Don't think she doesn't hear that sarcasm.]

Well, that's awfully observant of you! Would you like to help?

The comforting feeling of having done good?

You've been here the longest. I think you really could help a lot.

A simple "frequently asked questions" might be good.

Also it might be good to make a simple survival guide for quick reading, an a more detailed one for future reading.

Just simply the basics at first, something like this:

SURVIVAL GUIDE TO KANNAGARA
  • You were brought here by the gods.
---> Whether you believe it or not, up to your own choosing, that is the only information we have.
---> You're here to learn something. Who knows what it is.
  • This is not your world
---> Some laws do not apply here, such as some laws of physics.
---> Time spend here does not mean time spend back in your home world. (You won't even be missing back at home.)
  • Hitomi the device you're holding is for communication
---> Locals do not have them, only the other worlders such as yourself.
---> You cannot break it or lose it. It also might turn on, on its own.
---> It will record your dreams randomly and broadcast them out in Hitomi network.
  • Distances ( ... )

Oh wow, that's... thorough. Very helpful, yes. I think there's some things to add here or there, but that's a very good starting point.

[She herself hadn't even been thinking of a bullet point style, though that was how she did her own notes. She thinks it a good point.]

Thank you very much, Gokudera-san!

No problem.

[ A small pause, then with a bit of a sigh: ] Just let me know what I can do to help out with the rest.
