Watch your Hitomi next time you're making a deal. It's apparently kind of nosy.

It's too late. Boss saw. He must have seen.

[This only confirms his suspicions. The thing is, Gokudera had been content not knowing for sure, because that means he doesn't have to react to something he feels that is none of his business and yet, is. He had hoped he could stay ignorant and maybe even....

No, it's pointless now.

He opens a video, even if he hasn't really spoken with Chrome since the incident after Christmas party. He frowns a bit, but it's because of exhaustion rather than anything else.]

Chrome... [And it is right after Byakuran's accident with the Hitomi. She should have known better. Disappointed.]

Was this intentional?

[ She had not seen the incident with Byakuran when this was broadcast; in all likelihood, the broadcasts may have been concurrent. Perhaps someone decided to play a trick on them; Chrome has no way of knowing, but she is despairing of the incident in the way that one can only be upon realizing that one's superior will be ashamed of them.

But. Stoicism is a defense mechanism, too. ]

No.

[ Shuffling a little with the Hitomi settings. ]

I did not turn it on.

They did.

Alright... [ Quietly. It's pointless to raise a bigger commotion over that. Chrome is hard working and she has had her reminder to be more careful.

However, there is something else he must say.

And he sighs before getting to it, giving the Hitomi screen a dark look that says quite clearly how much he enjoys this. ]

You do know Vongola doesn't deal with drugs, right?

[ The lack of commotion over that is appreciated. The other? ]

Some kinds. Yes.

[ Let's not pretend Boss isn't getting wasted as we speak, and how many cigarettes do you take in a day? Some drugs, then. Where do you draw the line? Hallucinogens? Anything which could make a person violent? But perhaps this is a point to be quibbled later. The main thing, then -- ]

I do not go on orders of Vongola.

The drug is blood of my roommate. I am paid as bodyguard.

[ Lelouch watches this carefully, very carefully. After moving back into Yomisato - after the nightmare and the talk with Elfangor, after seriously re-evaluating what he intends to do with his time here - Lelouch has begun gathering information. Studying up on the power structure here in Yomisato. He'd been aware of Chrome only vaguely; knew that she was here with a number of people from the same world, all seemingly involved with one another. Lelouch has no love for the mafia of his world, and he is by now positive that this tiny organization belongs to an analogue of such in their world ( ... )

[ Peter is really not sure what to make of all of this. He hadn't known at all that this was the type of business Chrome had involved herself in. She always seemed like such a nice, lovely person -- but here she is selling some kind of drug (and really maybe it isn't Peter's business, Chrome most likely has no idea this is even broadcasting, but still, still, drugs?) to a man that Peter never would've imagined her having any business with at all. And sure, there are plenty of those types of men crawling around Yomisato, but people can make their own choices. People can decide who they want to interact with, who they want to work with. For Chrome to be involved in something like this --

Peter's kind of disappointed.

He thought she was (a good person, definitely a good person, with a good heart) a little awkward, a little shy, yet he instinctively felt that there was a kindness to her that was genuine. But this. This. What the hell does he make of this ( ... )

[There seems to be a trend here with these fucking things going off at the most opportune moments. It was the reason that Mello caught wind of J's initial fuck-ups, how he convinced her that she would do much better with someone to have her back. How he obtained what is possibly the most expensive female in Kannagara (all things considered,) and worked out something that should have been impossible to accomplish.

Slip-ups are his friend, when they involve the other party.

Exploitation, unfortunately, isn't at the top of his priorities, at the moment. They should be. Mello is an opportunist. He takes where he can, because when one lies back and waits for things to come to them, they tend to essentially end up with nothing. And he never really did do well with nothing. It's something he doesn't accept, by any means.

The question is: how did Chrome get her hands on V? She and J lived together; Mello knows that much. Rent, maybe? Possibly. Or it's possible that this shit has gotten so out of hand since he went home that it's going ( ... )

[ It's a trend, indeed, but up until now, Chrome has avoided the worst of it. She's careful. Usually so very careful about what she deliberately puts forth in front of strangers. When the gods decide to tamper with your device, however, there isn't very much you you can do to turn their will aside. Even so, she might have brought something to place the Hitomi in. A covering, maybe. It had not even crossed her mind. But she has learned her lesson, for now.

The man on the screen is one she recognizes from her initial entrance into the buying and selling of V. The voice brings up memories of a phone call, but Chrome had seen him even before that; she does not, however, remember the exact nature of what he wanted at the time, or even if he made this specifically clear to her. Matt's and Jessica's friend in some capacity, right? Ah. Getting a better idea and more information would be a good thing. So she decides to respond. ]

Unfortunately.

Don't have to be careful to notice the obvious.

[ Unless you're a complete fucking idiot, which he's almost pretty sure this girl is not. She may have put her ass on the line (possibly literally) a little, from what he saw, but if risks are stupid, then Mello could be considered an absolute idiot.

One arm is tucked behind his head, and his gaze is still lazy, unfocused, if you're not familiar with the fact that it takes a lot for him to be anything less than keen.

And so the question arises again:]

Why exactly did you drink it?

[His voice is low, as though there's the slightest possibility of than anyone other than the two of them hearing. Oh, and it's such a small, possibly insignificant detail. But if it isn't so insignificant? It could be a tell-all. That she had someone on the inside, perhaps. Someone who would linger unnoticed, someone trusted enough to prepare this guy's tea, but of so little consequence that their actions would be taken at face-value.

It wouldn't be a genius move. Impressive to pull off, though.]Tell ( ... )

[ Oh, Mello. You're not going to let it go, are you? Chrome would not have begun drinking the tea had she realized that she was being filmed, but as it happens, she was, and she will deal with the repercussions. And the fact is, he's right. Her actions revealed that she had more control of the scenario than she was letting on. The question, now, is whether she wants to be honest or not.

Chrome could, perhaps rightly, note that she has been here before. That she knows how the Yomites are with regards to guest courtesies: you would never poison the tea, because tea is what one drinks first, before business. Poisoned tea would sabotage business. And the more important safeguard in Chrome's case is that she has a partner; her partner, you see, would be very displeased. But that had not stopped her from almost being threatened in another way, so that isn't a very convincing argument. And it's not the whole truth, is it? ]

If one controls who points the gun, then one can control who pours the tea.

It isn't so complicated.
