[Video] I am honored by ithide_the_wrenchSeptember 30 2010, 04:57:49 UTC
[The response comes a couple hours later, once she's somewhat awake but still groggy. It takes her a moment to understand what he’s talking about at all, but oh- right. Dreams… they display here, don’t they? Well, that’s embarrassing. But it probably could have been worse, right?]
[She grins, hoping that her slight flush won’t be visible in the dim room.]
Yeah. That’s not one of them, though. Probably. It would be pretty cool, now that I think about it, but not on my to-do list so far.
Well, keep your eyes open; I might get bored enough here to try it.
[Not like she has anything better to do with her time. That question is surprisingly serious, though, and she pauses a moment before answering even though she knows what she's going to say.]
I'm going to be the best automail mechanic there is.
[Punctuated by a fairly cocky grin.]
Which I'm doing pretty well with, if I do say so myself.
[The grin falters a bit as she thinks back on all the customers waiting on her back home. Well, with the Promised Day going on and all, she would have had to be out of sight anyway.]
[Iskierka snorts at the dream, clearly displeased with it. She is used to humans creating contraptions to make their way around the world; she has been on ships many times, in fact. But the notion of humans achieving flight is still a good century away in her world, and while humans may dream of taking to the skies it remains just that: a dream
( ... )
[Winry might have argued that, to someone else. Maybe riding a dragon was better than piloting a mechanical one; maybe. There were points for each side. But the idea that flesh was superior to machine was something she would have staunchly argued against, and she certainly wouldn't have accepted anyone calling her creation (even a fictional one) clunky and distasteful.]
[If she wasn't talking to a dragon who she would probably want rides from in the future.]
[As things are, she bites her tongue, though she can't help but frown a bit. "Clunky and distasteful" her ass, that thing was a piece of art.]
Well, dragons don't exist in my world, so I guess that a machine would be the next best thing. It was just a dream, anyway; I'm not sure if it would even be possible to build a thing like that.
[Not that worries like that had ever stopped her.]
[Well that changes her mind just a tiny bit. If they didn't have dragons to do the flying, then it would make sense that they would have to build other things to fly. Knowing that no dragons would be harmed by it does make her feel a little better.
Also, the fact that it's a dream and not reality helps make it easier to accept, too. If Winry actually built that, she would be more upset.]
Metal would be much too heavy, in all honesty. Even us dragons cannot fly without our air sacs, and our flesh is far lighter than the metals that would be needed for it.

You have high aspirations, don't you?

If you don't mind me asking, what is it to which you aspire? What do you dream of doing with your life?

[The mechanical dragon was probably not feasible, no, but air travel in general wasn’t something that she would completely discount as a possibility.]
Still, that probably wouldn’t work without dream logic.

...your engineer.

I dunno. Dreams can be weird.
[A somewhat wry smile.]
Guess you were on my mind.

Really?

Well yeah. I don't know that many people here yet, and you seem like a nice guy.
