[Sasuke opens his eyes. The rain has stopped. He had thought the hollow patter of drops on the rocks-on his skin, in the scattered puddles of blood-would be the last sounds he ever heard. And yet, tragically, his eyes are open and he finds himself staring at nothing. Blurs. He blinks rapidly. Leaves. Sky. Blue.

He knows the Gods of this world are behind this one too, and for some reason, seeing the state of the man in the screen - confused, hurt, in pain - it angers Jim because all that the Gods seem to do is screw around with people. ]
Take a breath, mate. [ Jim's voice is calm, soothing, and the visible eye narrowed in concern. ] You aren't dead. You've been...transfered to this world called Kannagara.

So I've been told.
[ He touches the screen and the video disappears. At least that's something. ]

He lets it fall from his hands and flops onto the grass on his back. Perhaps if he lies here long enough he will just fade away. Perhaps that's for the best. ]

Wow, it's been a while since that guy was here. And he... really looks pretty horribly off, huh? As in, worse for wear. Hm...

Not dead. You okay, man?

[Not to mention that this particular person isn't doing anything entertaining either, just gazing around like someone who's had their brain sucked out for a good while, and muttering things that make no sense.]
[Kanda's about to hang up when he hears the very same question he's asked himself, and decides to reply anyway, though with a lack of interest.]
Whether or not you prefer it that way, you're not dead.

Iruka didn't really get to look earlier, not when Kakashi had warned him that Sasuke is there, that Sasuke is a danger to Naruto's life. He didn't have time to look when he had to rush around and make sure that Naruto's attention is focused on something else, that the boy is kept away from the very thing that he keeps chasing after and will never stop chasing. There hadn't been a moment of stillness for Iruka between that morning when Kakashi had given him the message and now that it's very late into the night and he's sure that both Naruto and Sai are fast asleep ( ... )

He hadn't been asleep, only lying in the darkness staring at the ceiling, when he'd heard his name spoken, tentatively, from the void.
Now he craddles the hitomi in the palms of his (bloodied, scarred, burnt) hands. The face filling the screen is one he hasn't seen--hasn't thought about--in years. He hadn't known Iruka was trapped here, as well. What motives could Kakashi have had for omitting this information ( ... )
