[Yamamoto's voice cuts through the network in a neutral manner. The of a lawyer or a doctor informing a patient that they have a terminal illness. It is almost impersonal but one that might give illusion that he is actually smiling behind the words.
Either way, it is still calm, because he needs to know. Wants to know

[He could make an excellent guess who Yamamoto's asking about, but Matt keeps his tone neutral, too. He knows all too well that sympathy can have a funny way of making you even more miserable.]

[Yamamoto makes a shrugging gesture with his mouth, as if asking, that simple? He knows Matt knows, but then after the burial, Yamamoto hadn't been doing much except taking it easy, because he didn't escape the scuffle unscathed. On top of burial, the fact that he isn't able to reach Tsuna and the others... well. There's no time for him to worry.
Because what if all of them are dead?]
There's no catch, no ritual, no virgin sacrifices to gods or like that?

It's, like, an auto-restore. I mean, no one has to do anything, this place just brings people back.
But they still remember what they went through.

[Because there is always a catch. Always.]

[Matt would agree, though, that something like this always has a price. Maybe not as dramatic as what happened to Ed, but something.]
I keep thinking if we start taking it for granted, the gods'll stop, but that doesn't really make sense either. Why bring us here just to let us stay dead?

[It isn't a question but a statement and probably a slip on Yamamoto's part. But as quick as it comes out, it stops there.]
How many deaths have you witnessed since you came here, Matt?

[And suddenly, he's angry, not at Yamamoto, but at the alleged gods. It's not a new feeling, but the fact that it's familiar by now is even more annoying.]
That's not something I need to learn, if they want us to get some bullshit about life being precious or whatever!
[He didn't care about anyone, save himself and Mello, before, and now he does, and he wouldn't take it back, but oh, it can hurt so much to care.]

[He cocks an eyebrow at that, because it's laughable. Life, these gods wants them to learn about life? When they so easily make it happen that they are taken away without even a bat of an eyelash? Yamamoto wants to says, shove your shit up where the sun doesn't fucking shine.]
So that's their game plan? Learn about life? You know, I'm pretty sure people know how short life can be before they were brought here. I'm pretty sure they try to do their best too.
There's no point experiencing death when it isn't permanent. It's a mockery of life itself, don't you think?
[Pretty bang up job there, heaven. Way to go.]

[Sure, the whole thing with the locals got them to work together, but it seems way too staged, like these so-called gods made the locals so they'd dislike the otherworlders, and then just, like, waited for it to explode. Probably watching and laughing.]
We'd be fine if they just left us alone.

Do you think they would? Honestly.
[Chin tipping upwards, eyebrow raising and back of his head leaning against the cavewall.]
Do you feel that in the depths of your heart, Matt~?
[And that is actually a serious question because Yamamoto knows those in power never. sits. still.]

[Matt's favorite theory is still that the "gods" are actually their 'verse's equivalent of kids, who got access to reality-bending somehow, and are using it to just screw around.]

[Let them mess around all they want. See if Yamamoto cares or subject to their will. He is of a firm believer that it's what people choose to do that dictates the outcome of their future. And what he chooses to do is to continue how Gokudera would have wanted it to continue.]
I've got a schedule to keep. Manas will open next week. And Manas will continue to serve people who needs a place to stay. It's not safe here, or anywhere. You sure you want to hang around here for a while?
[Yamamoto offers it because it's perfectly understandable if people feels their lives are threatened.]

[The only one he has, but he's starting to feel he'd choose it, if the choice even existed to be offered. With all the dumbfuckery by the so-called gods, and all the trouble the locals have given them, it's still so much better than nothing that it's not even a question.]
