[ The hero is the one that usually hurts those he cares about most.

It’s Fai’s first thought as he watches this man speak with such controlled anger. His second was that this child a bit rash, almost foolish.

Announcing his intention to form an organized front like that for all to see does nothing more than give those already prone to stirring malcontent a focal point for all their aggression.

A ready-made target offered to fuel the fires of war in a world that had, apparently, teetered precariously on the razor’s edge of madness. A world ripe for a single touch of misfortune to tip the scales.

And yet even with a thought like that, his passive thought that his very existence here, in this country so poised for turmoil, had been that single drop on the scales… all he did was pick up another glass and wipe it out, make it shine. Do his job, smile for now.

Because this wasn’t his world. These people were unrelated to him. They could do nothing to further his goal, help him fulfill his wish ( ... )
