athena25 did, whilst relating a rewatching of said scene (I was at parents' house, playing Dutiful Daughter). A rape scene in the same vein that the Buffy/Angel Graduation bite scene is a rape scene, I think. The obvious bits were the throwing of Spike on the bed and the actual penetration of his body. The other bits were the screaming. Like torture. Only with penetration. Which is odd, because I would have immediately discounted it as a rape scene as it was a woman conducting yet. Yet, if Riley had held a helpless Spike down and thrust his fingers inside an open wound and made Spike scream, I'd have cocked my head to one side and thought of it immediately.

The other thing that got me thinking was that Glory gets an almost sexual pleasure from inflicting pain. Certainly she's all sated afterwards. So, yeah. I'd never gone that road before, but I'm much more willing to think on it. *scrabbles for inspiration, any inspiration*

Your Darla theory is quite similar to mine, though I hadn't thought of that nearly draining thing (which makes all kind of sense). That he did punish her on a massive scale, though, and that the school girl outfit among other things was still part of the punishment (in pointed contrast to all the fashionable gowns she obviously adored throughout the centuries).

However. One single pebble in an otherwise fluent theory. In a season 5 of AtS episode, giving us a flashback to young William's early fanged days, Angelus mentions Darla visiting the Master (and is ticked off about it). Still, that's not a big problem - the Master could have saved the big punishment for when she was truly back, not visiting.

All more fun than saying "Joss didn't have Darla sketched out as a character in the first BTVS season".*g*

Okay, I'm loving your Darla theory. In fact I'm loving it so much that I'm sorely tempted to re-write and lengthen a Spike piece I wrote a few years ago. It's call Home Sweet Home and has Spike and Dru visiting Sunnydale in the sixties, encountering Darla (and the rest of the Order of Aurelius) and pissing them off so much that they are finally driven out of Sunnydale. I kept it light (and very short) at the time as I considered it a fluff piece about why Spike refered to Sunnydale as "Home, sweet home" when he first turned up. In light of your theory though I'm really tempted to open it up and explore the interactions and relationships much much more.

Here's the story as it stands:

Frienditto = bad news. It's a way for people to archive any LJ entry to which they have access. Including locked entries posted to comms or to the LJs of people on their flist.

Best not to use it.
