"'Youtube Heroes' is STUPID! - Angry Rant!"

The above video is the first time I've heard of this "Youtube Heroes" thing, which apparently became a thing within the past day or two. I have to agree with Joe that it sounds like the absolute worst idea ever, at least as far as trying to improve the abysmal state of Youtube goes. Giving a bunch of rando end users even more power and potential to be even bigger assholes than they already are like this is the exact opposite of what Youtube should be doing. As one of the comments under Joe's video says, this is basically Youtube now letting the inmates run the prison. Who will watch the watchmen and all that good shit?

Joe seems to think this is more about the comments, but the whole "mass flag videos" thing makes me think that it's more about the content itself than about the typical crass comments underneath said content, especially given that this is coming on the heels of Youtube's recent semi-high profile enforcement of their non-advertiser-friendly demonetization policy horseshit as well. It just seems to me that the potential for these so-called "Youtube Heroes" to abuse this system far outweighs what tiny amount of good might come from it.

Once again, dogshit like this makes me glad that I never got into trying to use Youtube for much of anything at all, aside from basic viewing of other people's content, and my interest in ever attempting to do so, which is already deeply into the negative values, continues to plummet.

Oh, and this is another rare instance in which I also find myself fully agreeing with Jim Sterling as well (including the completely unrelated "fuck Konami" stuff in the last two or three minutes of his video there). Oddly, it seems like the only times I ever even bother to mention Jim Sterling at all anymore is to point out the times that I agree with him. Hmm.

internet, angry joe
