My cat, Bowie, died last week. I was sad, but now I feel mostly...empty. My only escape is Netfilx with its Doctor Who episodes and Black Butler episodes. Sleep only seems to come with medicine that I have to take too much of to rest; I should really stop that

Owwwh I'm sorry for your cat, I think I know how you are feeling now .__.
I lost my lovely cat some years ago too and I had him for over 9 years.
Now we have an other cat and we were to the vet and let him examine and the doc has to narcotize my cat and I remembered the day were we had to put my other cat down and I started to cry again.. it's now been over 3 years since my other cat died but it still hurts so much ;___;
Hope you will feeling better soon. The pain will never vanish.. but you learn to live with it.

My cat was 12, so he was getting kind of old anyway, but...like you said the pain won't ever vanish, but I'll deal with it.
