02: Yuto's secret

Approximately 20 minutes later, they were all gathered in Yuto's room sitting around his kotatsu**.
Yuto was all dressed, Yamada's clothes were a little wet, so was Chinen's hair and Rin's eyes were red.
**a low table that has a heater
They all looked at Yuto as if  he was on the stands to be prosecuted.

Yuto stared at his hands. "What were you all doing in my bathroom earlier?" he asked in a hoarse voice.
"Wondering why you were acting strange" Yamada answered calmly.
"In my bathroom?" Yuto asked flatly. "Is taking a bath strange?"

"That's not it" Chinen said.
Yuto glanced at him then at Rin who was rubbing her eyes.
He blinks back, his face red. "Rin, uh..what you saw..uh.."

Her cheeks turned rosy. "Damn it, I thought you were drowning and uh.." she looked somewhere else. "Human anatomy..n-nothing strange.."
Yamada snorted, "oh come on you two! As if you haven't done it last Christmas.." he replied.
"Shut it Ryosuke!" Rin whispered sharply. It was certainly an inappropriate topic.
Pushing the thought aside, Yuto turned to Chinen. "What's the deal? You said something earlier, Chinen?"

"Your not yourself lately, you've been late during appointments and your talking in the phone with some girl" Chinen replied hastily, "not that its a big deal but its the way you talk to her.."
That made Yuto frown, "you listened to that?"

"I'm sorry but I can't help it" Chinen answered telling him his tale. Yamada also added his while Rin just quietly listened to them, and looking at Yuto's expression.

Ironically it was impassive.
That just made Rin want to give up.
She stood up, her eyes red from the wet towel Chinen had thrown over her face.

"I have to go" she simply said, not waiting for their reply she bolted out of the room and downstairs.
Raiya looked up at her from the game he was playing.
"You're leaving so soon, nee-chan?" he asked innocently.

"Ah, yes Raiya.." she smiled then paused. "Take care of your older brother okay?"
He looks at her with doubt. "You sound like your leaving"
She chuckled weakly, "I am.."
He shook his head. "I mean forever"
Rin stared back at the younger boy with amazement. "I'll be around" she winked and left.
She was about to open the front gate of the Nakajima house when Yuto caught her arm.
"Rin, wait" he huffed. Rin glanced at him, it was so cold and he didn't bother to put on a jacket just his tshirt and jogging pants. "Its cold" she tells him.

"What is wrong with you? Are you having an asthma attack?" he just had to ask that. Rin rolled her eyes.
"Why does it always have to be my asthma? Can't you see anything pass that?" she muttered sharply.
His gaze wavers, "then..what is wrong?"

"I'm tired" she said.
His eyes widened.
"Yuto.." she said ever so softly, "the moment I wanted to be with you I knew what I was putting myself into. I took the risk and I know its worth it" she then smiled sadly at him. "You are someone who is just full of wonder, don't you know that? Its like opening a Christmas present everyday, wondering what I would get next.  Because you are this wonderful, I am going to take a step back and let you walk on your own.." she swallowed, "even if we are together if one falters, the other must give way and its not because the feeling is gone its because I seek only your happiness. And right now I am not that person who can provide you that.."
His grip loosened, "W-what a-are..you saying?" he asked in disbelief.
"You know very well what I am saying. I'm sorry I need to go..my eyes are stinging already.." she turned before he could say another word.
Yuto stood there, too stun to move. "Your not a very good liar Rin..I know those are tears.." he whispered.

From afar Yamada shook his head, "this is bad.."
Chinen nodded. "Why didn't Yuto-kun say anything?"
Yamada's jaw tightened, "he must be guilty.."
"That's sad.." Chinen sighed, "why must things end this way?"
Yamada turned away. "Because its not meant to be"

Three weeks has passed.
Yamada and Chinen dared not talk to Yuto about the incident and likewise the latter did the same.

Yuto seem to go on with his life as if nothing had happened. Rin was acting a little strange running off quickly after school.
She hadn't said much to any of them either.
Then one day Yuto invites Yamada and Chinen out somewhere, to his favorite pastime again.
"Another horse ranch" Yamada sighed glancing at Yuto who seem so happy looking around.

"I am bitterly reminded of the Basashi" Yamada added made a face as they made way to the ranch.
Chinen wrinkled his nose, "me too..hey..look there! Yabusame.."**
** is a type of mounted archery in traditional Japanese archery.

"Hey Yuto.." Yamada started to call him but the tall boy was already heading towards the yabusame.
Yamada rolled his eyes, "man, his fast!"
Chinen let out a loud laugh and they both followed their friend.
"OMG, that is so cool!" Yuto whispered excitedly as they all watched the rider in a white horse approached the target in an amazing speed.

"Yeah, bet you can't do anything like that" Yamada teased.
Yuto made a face, "not yet but I'm learning..."
Just then Chinen grabbed both Yuto and Yamada's shoulders and squeezed them hard.

"HEY! It's KITANO RIN!" Chinen suddenly shouted on top of his voice.
His sudden outburst caused the arrow to fly towards them, Yamada pulled Chinen to the sides and the arrow nearly missing Yuto by the hair.
"OH GOD, I nearly died..." Yuto swallowed hard and fainted.
