Outside of the City though, probably the closest he came to death aside from fighting Shishio was making his way through the Forest of Barriers--

[He paled the second the words started coming out of his mouth, before his hand shot to his mouth. He did not want to talk about this now. Not because of a curse...]

[Her eyes went wide with worry. That .... his reaction meant it was something he didn't want her to know about. It hurt to know that, but she didn't want him to hurt himself. She needed to think of a way to stop him from talking.]

[After a few seconds he took his hand away from his mouth, praying that the City didn't make him slip further.]

Kaoru-dono, he is not ready to speak about this yet...

[His scar seemed to stand out so starkly it seemed it could begin bleeding again at any second.]

[She nodded. She'd told him that his past didn't matter. That she wanted him to stay. That was just as true now as it was before.

She was frowning though, trying to think of a way to stop this curse from hurting him. Finally she leaned forward and kissed him soundly on the lips. If his mouth was preoccupied then maybe he couldn't talk.]

[His eyes went a little wide then, not expecting her to move in that way.]

Kaoru-do--mmph--

[The super secret tanuki silencing technique worked for a few seconds... and then his started speaking directly against her lips...]

It was a trap and he knew it, and yet he went anyway... That time is the reason he does not deal with hostage situations well... When Jinei took you it brought it all back--

[She was listening, though trying not to. She didn't want him to be hurt from his own words, and the kissing wasn't working.

[The idea had been cute, certainly--but it wasn't working, and he was still sick, so he pushed her back, his hand covering his mouth again--seemingly staving off the babbling for the moment.]

[Perhaps he should just stuff a handkerchief in his mouth for the rest of the day...]

[Of course he would do that. He was too worried about her getting sick. Fine, gagging it was.

She stood up with a firm resolve and pulled the ribbon out of her hair. It was a new ribbon she'd just bought, but it wasn't going to be the first time he'd ruined one of her ribbons.

Setting herself behind him she firmly gagged him.]

Oro? [His eyes went wide for a moment--mind instantly wandering to previous occurrences that he should not be thinking about and flushing horribly over it.]

[And then he was gagged.]

[He blinked wide for several seconds before laughing through the fabric and nodding his thanks to her.]

[She smiled in triumph before noticing the blush. Did he have a fever again?! She shoved her hand against his head to see if it had gotten worse.]

I told you that you should be sleeping!
