If your monitor has a DVI port, you can get a DVI -> HDMI adapter. The technology between the two is similar, just that DVI only carries video whereas HDMI carries video and audio.
I've got my new monitor hooked up with DVI and I can't believe how crisp and sharp everything looks. The smoothing effect VGA adds (on account of being an analog signal) is nice on certain things, but things look so much cleaner with a digital signal.
