Toying with organizers

I ran around the city yesterday trying out various Android based devices. I have no interest in a cell phone, specifically because I hate getting phone calls when I'm not at home, and the prohibitively high cost of receiving said annoying calls. But I am looking for a possible PDA-style organizer, which a smartphone fits into quite nicely.

At first I thought I'd check out the new Nexus 7 tablets. I am definitely a bit behind on the times because I found the interface to be confusing for a little bit, and the inputs to be a bit too responsive. I did get better with it the more I played, but I didn't get much time because it was at a retail store. Overall I felt that the 7" tablet was too big to carry around for use as a PDA, and I'm still wary of the touch screen input. I don't like not having physical feedback. Kei's Ipad pulls it off in some way that is barely tolerable, but I couldn't stand it at all on the Nexus 7.

The other option that I didn't get to play with at all is the new Galaxy Nexus smartphone. It's unfortunately a lot more expensive than the tablet option (by $100) but likely exactly what I'm looking for in size if other Galaxy smartphones are any indication. Unfortunately nobody has one on display to play with. It comes with Jelly Bean and all the stores I went to were still running Honeycomb, with a single phone running Ice Cream Sandwich; nothing at all running Jelly Bean.

I'm also not sure I want to spend $350 on this project. It would be nice to better organize myself via Google Calendar, but that is really the only benefit to it that I can assign a value to. There are other neat things that it would bring, but I have a hard time finding them worth anything to me. A GPS device? Sure it's convenient, and I would probably use it, but I've never found them to be a must have feature in any sense. I don't know, maybe the modern, refined electronic toys aren't for me.
