Further PC woes...

Last week, the hard drive in my work PC died. Luckily, we have a backup system, so the only thing I lost was my Firefox bookmarks. No big deal there. The nice IT guy was able to replace my hard drive within two days, so I wasn't even out of commission for very long ( Read more... )

Your motherboard probably has a NiCad battery on it - watch battery style. Most boards have that style of battery these days. Your warning means that's going bad. It's not a huge deal, but it means a lot of the BIOS setup and configuration is going to be lost, and things like the system clock will stop working when the computer's not on. You'll have to reconfig and reset the clock every time you turn it on, once the battery dies.

It's easily fixable with a new battery.

erm... I'm pretty sure that means you need to replace the mobo's system battery. They -do- have them, to maintain the system clock. Or at least, they used to.

CMOS has a battery on it. It keeps your hardware settings, and the system date. ^_^ Typically will look like a round watch or camera battery, they're very easy aand inexpensive to replace. :)
