What a lovely bit of Mycroft. And what a complete picture you draw, with so few words - her past and trajectory, even hints at her motivation. And then the shocker, when you reveal it was not a surprise suicide, but another player *g* Very nice indeed.

Thanks very much - I have to confess I never thought of a suicide! That would probably have made sense... I always knew it should end with her dying in his arms, although he would arrive at the rendezvous believing that it might be him. Maybe someone should write a third variation on Pavanne, in which that's what she does.

Ah, cheers. Somehow it never occurred to me that "the other one" might be a woman - is it clear in canon, or just my personal bias?

I fear it will be a man, as the writers are all men so that tends to be their default. But I see no reason why it has to be, and I think another brother would be rather boring.

The only evidence comes from Mycroft: "Don’t be absurd. I am not given to outbursts of brotherly compassion. You know what happened to the other one."

Brotherly compassion is the compassion felt by a brother (in this case - or, if he's being truthful, not in this case - Mycroft) for a sibling of either sex.
