Naturally I share the general distress at the outcome of the General Election, and I'm particularly sorry for Ed Miliband, whom I really like, and I've no idea whether I'll ever have another chance to get a geek from my college into Downing Street ( Read more... )

I was surprised that in these parts the Labour candidate actually came in second... we're in a "pig/blue rosette" constituency. I did spend most of yesterday muttering about the general stupidity of the electorate, and announcing that I really don't want to have to leave the country again (I was away for 10 years after Thatcher got back in for her second run).

Round these parts the Lib Dems got a handful more votes than the Greens, which is to say not very many. I'm fascinated by the way they seem surprised by what happened. It was inevitable as far as I can see from the moment they sold out and went into coalition with the Tories. I'm an almost lifelong labour voter and I'm utterly horrified by the results this time around, but at least we had a Labour candidate this time round. Not that we saw her or any campaign literature at any time...

I only have the basic information about the UK system but it is enough to understand.
To tell the truth, the result of the elections was surprising for me because the media kept announcing that quite an even rersults are expected.
I do know Manchester is a very special city with lots of special people - one of them you, my friend.
