Manchester Pride, again

Yesterday I went to Manchester Pride. I went with friends last year, but was alone this time, which left me without a focus; from my point of view the Pride event itself is rather boring, as it essentially consists of a lot of people milling around bars and going to pop concerts. I sat (or stood) through a lot of pop last year, and enjoyed quite ( Read more... )

It's a huge event here, running from Friday to Monday, though I only went on Saturday this year - and the parade is extraordinarily popular - if you scroll down this page you can see how long the route was, and there were crowds on both sides of the road all the way (frequently cheering, though we saw half a dozen with "Be sure your sins will find you out" type placards).

WOW! The route is long and cleverly planned. We had the Prague Pride several days ago but not so impressive. I admire mainly the organisation and real pride that are very wonderful and prominent.
Well, these parochials have only empty words on display - and they are everywhere. But you know.:-)

It's apparently one of the longest-running Pride events in the UK - there was some sort of event from the late 1980s onwards, though the name "Manchester Pride" wasn't used until a decade ago. But it's very impressive that so many people are so enthusiastic about watching! (The gay village itself is fenced off for the long weekend and admission is by wristband, but anyone can see the parade as that is outside the village, though it goes past it right at the end.)

We waved and smiled cheerfully at the handful telling us the wages of sin are death.
