I have never thought of a closer look at this gorgeous building. Now I agree with you that it is exceptional! I love Art Deco and this is a fine example of course with a spirit of the NY expansion skyward:-) Beautiful pictures, thank you!
Have you watched the "Life After People" episode where they show how (and more importantly the intricacies of why) the first skyscrapers built will be the last ones standing? So I believe after a surprisingly short period of time the New York skyline is just the Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building surrounded by rubble. And parrots. Gosh Life After People is great. :-D
No, sounds interesting. The whole competitive-tower-building culture of that period reminds me of San Gimignano, which may be down to its last 14 towers but those have been around for 800-1,000 years, so a good tower is evidently your best bet for leaving a mark on the landscape. Also a whole lot of round towers from a similar period in Ireland, though they seem to have lacked the competitive build-one-taller-than-that-other-one-a-few-metres-away instinct.

I too am a fan of the Chrysler Building, though I've never been inside it or seen it up really close.
