Some thinky linkage to start your morning off right:
SF Signal's most recent Mind Meld asks the question
"Is Science Fiction Antithetical to Religion?" Various sci-fi authors weigh in with their answers, including our own
johncwright (whom I must thank for the link). Lots of chewy goodness to be had, go and sink your teeth in.

I saw JCW's announcement about joining the Church (w00t!) on SciFiCatholic's blog, but didn't know he had an lj. Nifty!

You can't generalize about this large a field.
What he said. That was exactly my first thought upon seeing the topic.
I agree wholeheartedly with this as well:
You can't just a book by its cover...and you can't necessarily judge an author's (or a field's) religious beliefs by that book's contents.

This caught my eye:
In 1984 I wrote a very controversial novel titled The Branch, in which God and the true Jewish Messiah (not Jesus) were the two villains of the piece. The poor producer/director who optioned and made it got excommunicated from his church and thrown out of his country (Andorra)...
I wonder if it's available? I definitely disagree with his being thrown out of the country. As for being excommunicated, I suppose that would depend on the content of the story, as well as the teaching/rules on excommunication, which I am not familiar with. I am definitely curious now.

Honestly, it seems like all you'd need to throw someone out of Andorra would be a firm shove...
