Dude, you guys, how is it that no one ever told me about the existence of flowering teas? *stares in awe*

Seriously, check this out: these tea balls are sewn together in such a way that when they're placed in hot water, they "bloom" into various lovely flower shapes. What could possibly be cooler than this?

Oh pooh. Yeah, er, my mom has loved this for ages but I never thought it'd be something to geek over...:-D

It's cool but I haven't tried any that tastes very good yet.

I will warn you that very, very few of these actually taste good.

Most taste like wet cardboard.

Aw, really? That's so disappointing. Someone on a tea comm said the one she got was good, but I have no idea what constitutes "good" to her. Woe.

I honestly thought it was the way my mom brewed it, since she never actually DRINKS tea but loves decorative things, but to hear it's usually not good is vurra disappointing.

I think it may vary by brand. Some folks down the thread seem to like the ones they've tried, so maybe it just depends which kind you get.

There's a Japanese restaurant in Glasgow which does them, and I remember them being good - but unfortunately, goodness alone knows where they get them from....

They is pretty, aren't they? I got my mum some of Numi flowering tea last Mother's Day, after I saw it in a health food shop. She loves it. I've tried a few, and I like some but not others. They need brewing for a while, or they don't taste of anything, but they are awfully pretty.
