So it begins

Every year at this time, my lobby muzak changes from classical/crooner fare to doopy Christmas songs sung by 90s pop stars. I assume this is because of that time that I accidentally had the custom glass people measure the wrong desk and so spent $800 of the firm's money on a glass desktop that we didn't need, since I'm pretty sure my employers ( Read more... )

Seriously. If they have to play Christmas music 24/7, can't they at least play decent Christmas music? Hearing pop singers torturing Christmas music does not put me in the holiday spirit.

Christmas muzak should be considered cruel and unusual punishment. I do my holiday shopping online just so I can escape the sound of malls and stores. It's as if the entire country engages in psychological warfare against its people.

Last year we went to the movie theater, and they were playing "Rocking Around the Christmas Tree." That was the only song in rotation. We were barely 15 minutes early, but we heard it something like six times straight. I remember being on the verge of hysterical tears and/or barehanded murder by the time the previews began.

And here's one way we're nothing alike: I'm terribly fond of Christmas and most (though not all) of its holiday, celebratory trappings.

Although carols covered by pop stars could indeed be aggravating; I'll give you that.

I usually get excited about Christmas the week of. Prior to that, the hype and the annoying songs get on my nerves. Possibly I feel like I'm being told to be happy, and my contrary streak asserts itself, or something.

The music thing drives me nuts, though. There's so much awesome Christmas music out there! Frank Sinatra! Bing Crosby! Ooodles and oodles of traditional and classical stuff! But instead we play N*Sync. Gaaah!

Or, worse, New Kids on the Block's "Santa Got Run Over by a Reindeer".

Bring me Bing any day!

You're going to like my sermon for this Sunday.

Holding Christmas festivities during Advent should be punishable by death cake multiple ruler-whackings.
