Can't take the sky from me

So. Firefly. I can see why this show is such a cult favorite. I can also see (don't kill me) why it didn't do so well. Weird marketing and non-linear broadcast dates notwithstanding, I can see how the eccentric mix of character moments, humor, skiffy action, and snappy dialog that make it so very watchable for me might make it a little off-putting ( Read more... )

You'll love the Big Damn Movie if you enjoyed the series. :D

Fave line comes from Book in "Our Mrs. Reynolds":

"If you take sexual advantage of her, you're going to burn in a very special level of hell. A level they reserve for child molesters and people who talk at the theater."

XDDD

References to the Special hell are so very versatile!

Indeed they are! That's why Book's one of my fave characters on that show.

The other fave quote: "I can kill you with my mind." (River) Apparently, my cat Noel and River are strange like that...

1. LJ is being flaky today and it's really annoying me.

2. You probably think that, of all the characters on the show, I'm the most like Shepherd Book. Everyone thinks that. All the intarweb quizzes certainly say that. But I think I'm an almost perfect cross between Simon Tam and Jayne: erudite and scrupulous and nerdy, yet also large, good with and fond of guns, and (in the situations portrayed on the show, anyway) matter-of-fact and occasionally ruthless. Ecclesiastically-oriented or no, Book is smarmy and I am not. Or at least I'd like to think not.

3. So... you want me to tell you who dies in the movie? ;D

1. No joke! *hits LJ*

2. Well, as far as category, you do fit for Book...bad ass preacher guys, both. But, yeah, I'd agree that as far as personality you're more a match for Jayne with Simon's education and manners thrown in.

3. Sadly, I already know of two crew deaths, and I'm very sad about both. I think I'll pass on any more spoilers, I'm not usually picky about them, but with this flick I'd like to be a little surprised, at least.

After you see the movie, I will tell you my reaction to the 2nd incident. I went in un-spoiled (because Geo and I weren't watching FF at the time, but I had borrowed Bro's DVDs), and I . . . yeah. We'll talk.

How much do I love this show? So much that I started my own LJ group: firefly_for_fun Yeah, I've never done that before, and I'll probably never do it again.

The Big Damn Movie is in my top 10 favorites of all time...and I have exquisite taste. :)

You're favorites are all of mine. Ariel is definitely my favorite, and I also really love Safe, mostly because of the Simon/River moments. Safe is just so sweet to me, I love it. You didn't mention "Out of Gas," which surprised me, as that's usually one of everyone's favorites (not mine), so I'm wondering what you think of it.

I love "Our Mrs. R" mostly because of the awesome Wash moments. I've decided that I am Wash in a woman's body. I really am.

I'm so glad you're watching this show. It fostered a fandom obsession in me that's never occurred before. It was rather surprising, but wonderful and fantastic all the same.

Re. "Out of Gas" I only saw it once (I re-watch ones that I particularly like because I have a very poor memory the first time 'round) so I don't remember it perfectly, but I know it was mostly flashbacks of how the crew came to Serenity and that kind of thing. I liked it well enough, but I can't remember loving it, maybe because I tend to get kind of frustrated with excessive flashbacks. Non-linear storytelling can be fun, but I like it better in written form than I do in tv/movies.

Wash's moments in "Our Mrs. R" were definitely amusing. But then his moments in every ep are amusing. And I shall name him Washy and he shall be mine, and he shall be my Washy.

Now that my shows are on summer hiatus, I need to pull out my FF discs again. Because, yeah. Great cheesy fun. Too many personal faves to list. Though the first that pops to mind is in "Jaynestown" when Wash and Mal come back drunk, Wash tells Zoe about Jayne, and Zoe says, "You've been drinking, Husband." "Don't make it any less true," replies Mal. Heh.

Also, it took me a minute to catch up during your post. The first time I saw you reference "GT," I thought you were talking about Gina Torres, which made absolutely no sense in the context of the sentence. Gina Torres, btw, is all kinds of cool. I've loved her ever since Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, and she even makes Cleopatra 2525 tolerable.

Re: the cancellation of the show. As Geo would say, it was "too brilliant for television." It was mishandled by the same network that mishandled Wonderfalls, another brilliant and quirky series (in which Jewel Stait, aka Kaylee, appears now and again) that was cancelled after only 3 airings ( ... )

Yeah, sorry, I referred to my sister as Green Tea and GT long before she had an LJ so I sometimes still forget to use her LJ username instead of the abbreviation and it leads to confusion.

There was so much quote goodness in Jaynestown. I loved the encounter between River, Zoe and Book's hair. "Hell yes, preacher, if I didn't have things to be doin' I'd be in there with her!"

I want a cunning hat!!
