I'm pretty sure I had a Sam Winchester-related cardiac event when I got to the end of this poem, because his sign-off/goodbye is "Stay safe" more often than anyone I have ever known in my life, in fact or fiction. IT IS A PHRASE THAT FOREVER BELONGS TO HIM IN MY MIND.

I can see the Sam vibes here, certainly. All of the things we say when what we mean is "I want you safe." (As a parent, the first stanza hit me especially hard.)

that please don't die really gets me--something about that extra space makes it hit harder than it should
