Because nothing says "Wincest" like sappy 90s pop, amirite? Fandom should be damned glad I don't write 'ship fic often, because it would all be Michelle Branch and Ricky Martin, all the time. xDD
When I first watched 5x22 I was so sapped by RL that after it finished I just told my SPN friend at the time something along the lines of 'I think I'm supposed to care but I am too fucking tired to give a damn. Give me a day or so.'
5x22 crept up on me slow, but by the next afternoon I was laughing-crying about Misha's "assbutt" Tweet and the episode just swept me up and let's be real, it still hasn't let me go. It took me months to get over my panic and devastation (the good kind of devastation) after 5x22, and to this day thinking about it too much affects me viscerally. No episode of television has ever quite done the thing that "Swan Song" did for me, and believe me when I say that television has done a lot of things to me. I still can't write S5 AUs anymore because I am so loathe to overwrite 5x22 for Sam.
Anyway, the day after 5x22 aired I went to a free Michelle Branch concert, and she sang this song, and my mind was filled with Sam and Dean and so now this song is, to my mind, forever a Sam/Dean song.
I chose this lyrics video for the song because they have emoticons at the end of half the lines and I find them hilarious. XDDD

Lemme just watch you ineffectually rake leaves and stand under your streelight, k!!
