Thanks, Carla. It's actually my dad's mom, but he is all right with her passing. It was her time, and she went peacefully.

Mom is up here on Wednesday and I will give her lots of hugs (and I'll tell her one of them is from you). I can't wait to see her.

I figured you had probably been to Athens and some of the islands, since they're relatively close. We're going to Santorini, Crete and Naxos. Do you think we should visit any other islands?

And thanks :-) I'm getting really excited, even though it's still a year away.

Ahhh, that explains why I haven't gotten an email from them. Well I definitely got my $7.99 worth the first month, but I've been lagging lately because there is just so much to do and I haven't had time to watch TV or a video. I need to either start watching more, or cancel it, I guess.

I'm sorry about your gran but, wow, 97 -- that's impressive.

Athens is very hot and crowded. Roughly a third of all Greeks live there, and it's very noisy, chaotic and polluted. It's definitely worth visiting and I went to the usual touristy spots, but I wouldn't recommend spending more than three or four days there.

As for the rest of Greece, it really depends what you're into -- ruins? Sitting on a beach? Rick Steves' guidebooks are usually pretty good, though I usually supplement them with the Lonely Planet equivalents.

Thanks, Claudia. And yes, 97 is very impressive, and mentally she was sharp right up to the end. Blind as a bat, but sharp!

We're looking at spending about 2-3 days in Athens, and we're hoping that since we're going in June it will be a little less hot and crowded than it could be.

The rest of the time will be spent on Santorini, Crete and Naxos. We figure that's a good combination of sitting on the beach, ruins, and snorkeling. We all have the Rick Steves book, as well as 3 or 4 different books about the islands. I think one of the girls has the Lonely Planet one.

Thanks for your suggestions!
