she felt the tension leave her own body, and together, holding on, they slept.
That image right there almost mad me cry. Somehow "together, holding on,"... just sort of says everything about them right now. It's more than just clutching each other in comfort, they really need each other right now.
And nice moment of Donna's influence at the end. I wasn't expecting that.
I love the emo/humor ratio in this very much, it's feels very real. I can't wait for the second part. :)
As they admitted ... they don't want to be apart. It's still awkward, though.
Amongst the plethora of fanfic that followed JE, I had real trouble holding interest in any fic that didn't have the Doctor and Rose spending the night together. For me, it is inconceivable that either of them would be able to sleep in separate rooms, despite the mass of conflicting emotions they must both be feeling. Both of them have simultaneously lost and gained so much, but the most precious thing that they both have at this point, is each other.

I agree. It's a little separation - but an avoidable one. And that doesn't mean that there has to be anything sexual going on. It's about companionship, sharing and taking comfort from one another.
I love Jackie, too. As I said to sazzrah above, her reaction isn't so much about the Doctor being in bed with Rose (whatever Pete may think about it) but the mortification of dragging Tony in to see his sister and finding the Doctor there. Ooops! Awkward moment. Oh well.
This is the first of your writing I've read (went back and read the previous story, of course), and it's marvelous. I can't wait for more! Lovely tiny interactions between them, great details.
Oh, you've got to go back and read the whole 'Process of Becoming' series, then. It is set in AU to this story (although, 'The Calm Before the Storm' could be viewed as canon-compliant, if you so choose), but it is just amazing.
I have been reading -- had followed the "Fic Master List" link and am making my way through all of it now. :-) (I'm reading The Hidden Well now -- and it's been keeping me up until 4am every night! Dammit!)
Lovely new chapter! I really liked how they couldn't bear to be out of touching distance for very long. And really, what did Jackie expect? That's what she gets for not knocking!

Thanks. I'll use this icon, because that's exactly the face. ;)

As tactile as they are with one another, I imagine that there would be a lot of physical attention - not necessarily sexual, but just touching.

Right. Well, it's Jackie.
