So I was thinking...

I like the Stargate SG1 fandom. I really do. It's a huge, widely varied place with some amazing talent and several of the nicest people it's ever been my pleasure to know. It has survived for eight years and is still going strong, which is pretty amazing, when you think about it. I mean, after literally thousands of stories have been written ( Read more... )

Well, I have never really been *in* the SG1 fandom I only ever read the fic, so making a comparison is pretty hard for me. But I do think that the SGA fandom is all in all a pretty happy place to be ( ... )

Oh yes, the show has been kind to us fans so far. And from what spoilers I've seen so far, it should continue to be that way. I'm hoping, anyway. And lj is a great place to hang out for the good fic, isn't it? I avoid ff.net like the plague. Maybe, eventually, there will be more tension and disagreement in the fandom, but if we hide out on lj and just enjoy all the startlingly good talent here, maybe we won't notice. *g*

and you know what...even if we do notice that shit from time to time. I will not allow this to destroy my happy bubble that is SGA *g*

I just need to rewatch an episode or reread a fanfic favorite and all is well with the world *g*

You have a couple good points here, especially with the pre-established setup for the Stargate universe allowing them to spend more time on characters. Less exposition, more interaction. Also, Atlantis has a greater feeling of immediacy (that darker undercurrent you mentioned) because they are right out there, seperated from home. It's not a day job, it's a colony. I mean, how much more convenient is it in a story to have one character walk down the hall to get to another's room, rather than having to drive across town? *g*
