Holy crap, that Karate Kid article.

I had some disagreement with Pratchett, though mostly because I think his LAWS OF NARRATIVE bit is too narrow, and that he glossed over it, and that storytelling benefits when you challenge forms and allow them to evolve, but hey, I enjoy postmodern novels. SO.

As for Gabaldon-gate, I agree with you so hard yet again. You win for posting this.

Holy crap, that Karate Kid article.

It stunned me. Literally.

re: Pratchett, I think what I liked about it was the "it has all these things to which I object and I DON'T CARE BECAUSE IT IS AWESOME."

re: gabaldon-gate - thank you! You know what else wins? YOUR ICON!

Oh yeah. It's brilliant when somebody who can frame an argument about why a thing is somehow flawed and yet does it with such panache. Plus, you know, Pratchett.

I'm seriously going to sneak Ginger Bill references into my novel draft.

Now where is my novel-writing montage?!

Really, you liked Glee? Wow. Explain to me why it was good so I can stop being upset about it! I seriously yawned during the Physical video. Everything seems so contrived to me, and not even creatively contrived! I enjoyed the songs, but as I said on faceb ( ... )

It might be that I hated last week's SO much that this week's seemed better by comparison? I was just happy to a) see a storyline involving my Quinnie! b) that Puck had, like, lines; c) that there was fun music -- "Total Eclipse of the Heart! and I nearly died laughing at Ice, Ice Baby, d) I actually liked Jesse in this ep!

Your plot quibbles are well taken (I have no answers for you), and I really miss the dark humor too. Although I did kind of enjoy seeing Will called out on his sluttiness. Also the introduction of Olivia Newton John was totally bizarre: like, what? Do we really have to pause for a little commercial informing us who this is?

I am still waiting for Mike (Other!Asian) to get a plot. Also: I love Brittany.

That training montage thing is so true, I've thought about that a lot over the last few years. It doesn't help that when you look back on periods of intense-and-extended work you kinda see it in your mind in the same sort of montage sequence, or maybe that's what I get for watching too many movies. The one thing I'll dispute though is the idea of shifting the blame, of being faced with the reality of hard work and thinking that because it's NOT a breezy selection of clips-to-music something must have gone wrong to deny you that. I'm aware of the difference between the perception and the reality and just because I'd LIKE it to be like that doesn't mean I won't admit that I'm just a lazy bastard. Or again, maybe that level of personal responsibility/self-loathing is just me. I do like to think that when there's a definite, attainable purpose I can put the effort in (I'm just saving my energy for whatever it is I'll need to do that'll actually get me to the US ( ... )
