Fic rec: days of old and days to be (Merlin)

Dec 10, 2009 09:20

I have just read the most spectacular Merlin fic. Seriously. If you like Heyer, and you like Merlin, you must read this story IMMEDIATELY. Written for camelotsolstice, it is note perfect, it is light, bright and sparkling, it is perfectly Merlin and perfectly Heyer-ish Regency. I would never have imagined that these two voices could be combined so seamlessly and ( Read more... )

have stuck this merlin fic (not that I've seen any Merlin yet, but I will hopefully someday) on my to read delicious tag.

also, determined to hunt down some Heyer. I keep hearing about her books, and so might as well throw them on the top of the three foot stack of "to be read" books.

:D

OH, YOU WILL LOVE HEYER.

Here is a list of my favorites: Frederica, A Civil Contract, Venetia, These Old Shades, (and its sequel, Devil's Cub -- though those two are Georgians and not Regencies), The Grand Sophy (there's a bit of anti-semitism in that one, but if you read period stuff of the 20s & 30s, it's pretty much par for the course, and the novel itself is lovely), The Talisman Ring (another Georgian), Cotillion, Arabella, Friday's Child, False Colours, Sylvester, The Foundling, The Masqueraders (cross dressing! LOTS OF CROSS DRESSING, and another Georgian)... really, I find all her Regencies & Georgians delightful...

It's amazing how many people list Frederica as their favourite one.
It's in my top three but the one I keep going back to is The Nonesuch. And the third is one of the historicals, Simon the Coldheart.
But they ALL have something to recommend them.
*g* The Grand Sophy - sigh!

I really really liked it but now I am annoyed because I can't find the Jack Harkness/Beau Brummell story I read a while ago ... that I didn't bookmark because, you know, I'd remember who wrote it. But obviously not.
I don't suppose you know the one?
