FLAILY

(1) How much do I love this is set post-Adrift?

(2) The initial conversation b/w Ianto and Asha had me wincing and laughing in all the right places.

(3) I like her. Yes!

Eeeeeep!

Thank you so much!!

1) *laughs* Poor Jack! He's gotta get his frustration out somewhere!
2) Poor Ianto too. When we started writing that part, I said to Rach, "Dude. I've never picked anyone up in my life. Or really even been picked up. What the hell do people say?" Luckily, in fiction we can guarantee a receptive audience. ;-)
3)Yay!

I absolutely loved the note from Owen in his desk: funny, in-character, and exactly the sort of thing you could imagine happening in canon. And I was very interested by the point you made that Jack's far more suited to be second-in-command than a leader. Very perceptive.

Thank you so much! We love the rest of the TW team, so any chance to play with them in what is essentially a Jack/Ianto series is just loads of fun. Personally, I'm really into Owen especially, so it's great to know that it meshes with canon for you!

I've always thought of Jack as being more comfortable as an XO rather than a CO; it seems very much the role he plays on Who especially, and he seemed very happy with himself there, when he has the Doctor to answer to. Contrast that with his -- shall we say angsty-ness - on Torchwood, and for us it seemed to fit. Glad it worked for you, and hope you enjoy the rest of the story!

Be doubly flattered in that case, because I normally avoid Jack/Ianto like the plague.

We are incredibly flattered. Thank you! I'm pretty anti-OTP as far as Jack goes, but I enjoy writing Jack/Ianto. Why, if I might ask, do you avoid?

I'm too anxious to read the rest of this to stop for much of a comment, but it'd be rude of me not to at least wave. Firstly, Owen's note, pure win. Also, I loved that you specified that this was not a Rose substitute, nor a Lisa substitute -- it keeps the focus entirely on Jack and Ianto.

Hi & thank you! So glad Owen's note worked for you. It was really fun having the rest of the team come out to sort of wave; we spend so much time with Jack & Ianto, it's great to visit, if briefly, with the other guys.

And yes, on the Rose and Lisa front! We were very anxious that this lady be someone *different* from the rest of the characters we've seen thus far, so we sort of specifically laid it out. The OFC thing is always a bit hard to parse, so it's difficult to know how to play it.

Thank you so much! We were initially very anxious about the OFC for all the reasons you've mentioned. I think we've all seen the type of stories you mention, and it's hard. On the other hand, the kink was something we really wanted to do, and as you say, we wanted to see Jack & Ianto through someone else's eyes - someone not them, or part of the team - someone normal.

*laughs* Yay on the cringing. Picking up ppl (or being picked up) is not something I personally have any experience with (although, thankfully rm is less lame than me) and I was all like, "Dude, what do people even say?" I thought Ianto might feel the same way ;-) although of course, he is more clever about it than I would be. And yes, Jack is very good at all this, and he knows how to get the result he wants.

I have some trouble with the uncomplicated happily ever after that we see even on the show. I mean, they seem very much together, very much into each other, but it's still a complex relationship, and some of the things that happen - like the whole episode Adrift ( ... )

While we both admit that of all the situations in this arc this is the one that is both the most and least plausible, I at least have done enough unbelievably ill-considered stuff at least somewhat of this ilk, that I defend this in the "shit happens" category. Also... more shit happens in the next part! Hee! I haven't revisited this one in a while, so this is fun.
