And while I'm fretting about the height of absurdity, take a look at this

Oh, and while I'm at it, hey Marvel and Brian Michael Bendis?

...

If you're going to have the Nouveau Avengers fight motherlovin' DREAD DORMAMMU himself, you might not want to have it be all be, you know, *low-powered heroes* taking him on:

I can just picture Spidey repeating 'We're gonna die, we're gonna die, we're gonna-'

And then he dies. Just as predicted.

Also, lol at Bucky taking a flying leap with his shield. You keep trying, Sport.

But this is Hood!Dormammu. So I've no doubt that Bucky will get in a good hit and get blasted to Hoboken with one casual Dormammu!backhand. Because a shield will work on a being made of pure energy, of course.

The current NA lineup, as far as I can tell, has no mystical heavyweights on the team since Stephen left to go angst about not deserving to be the Sorcerer Supreme anymore. At least Carol's on that cover trying to get in a good direct hit, but she's about it as far as anyone that could plausibly even get Dormammu to notice the current New Avengers.

You forget that Bendis believes that heroes should fail at all times.

I finally figured out Bendis' attitude toward superheroes at the end of his Daredevil run, when both Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk were in prison, and one of Bendis' screamingly obvious authorial mouthpiece characters stated that prison was where BOTH characters BELONGED.

I seriously believe that Bendis hates the idea of heroism itself, to a degree that makes even Garth Ennis look like a Silver Age superhero fanboy (after all, even ENNIS loves Superman).

I don't think Bendis thinks all heroes should fail or hates all heroism; after all, look at his semi-creepy obsession with Jessica Drew. Semi-creepy because his way of expressing how much he loves her is to make her a triple agent (again) and simperingly angst-ridden. I'm sure he couches the post-Secret Invasion difficulties of Jessica Drew as a story of a plucky heroine on a quest to rehabilitate herself in the public eye (again). (Although I will admit that in the very, very beginning of his NA run, the scene with Jessica walking into a prison and getting the incarcerated to spill their secrets by offering them Entemman's spiced apple donuts was pretty damn funny.)

I also -- and this pains me to say -- actually really liked parts of Bendis' run on Daredevil. He actually wrote Elektra well at times. But at the same time we had Bendis' ludicrous portrayal of Carol Danvers in Alias as being "all surface." CAROL? "All surface"?!

Anyway.

Except that, in spite of Bendis' gushing adoration of Jessica and Carol in interviews, he writes them as 100-percent incompetent and useless, just like every other "hero" he's ever written. I think it's so sublimated that he doesn't even realize that he's doing it. And that's before you get to the part where, in interviews, he talks about Dark Reign by claiming that NORMAN OSBORN is a sympathetic point-of-view character, which is an attutide that he shares with Quesada, who defended keeping the Norman-fucking-Gwen story in continuity, EVEN AFTER OMD (yes, it's STILL CANON, in spite of JMS's protests), because Norman is "charismatic" and "sexually powerful."

Bendis' attitude towards women makes more sense when you remember a) what a HUGE David Mamet fanboy he is, and b) what a HUGE misogynist Mamet is (I mean, I love Mamet, too, but ALL of his female characters are either "victims" or "bitches," which is pretty much what's happened to every single female character in the Marvel Universe under Bendis' tenure).

I'm facepalming enough about Marvel Divas today. No more CAPSLOCK OF RAGE about Bendis on my journal for the next...thirty-six hours. Moratorium!

Fixed. Good lord, that's one of the very stupidest typos that I've ever made in my time online.

... Is this a Marvel/WoW crossover? It looks like they're raiding Molten Core.

Totally OT but still pertaining to comic books:

hellb is a gal on my flist that also lives in my city. She is a model and since leaving her office job has taken just about every offer for modeling that doesn't require her to take her clothes off and apparently this has resulted in some interesting pictures.

She posted one of them in her journal and I think you'll like it.

Classic Catwoman!
